[BUG STILL][NO REPRO] [BUG] Missile altitude does not change over land

Post by ExMachina »

Some missiles (Sirens in this case) don't change altitude over land. I'm running Build 469.

These missiles should not have the ability to change altitude as they are designed not to fly over land but over water at a set altitude. They should have guidance ability as far as course correction but not as far as altitude correction.

We already had that discussion here (and there are competing sources as to whether or not Sirens had radar altimeters)

Point here is that the Sirens are currently flying underground [;)]

Ah.. well, you were correct in that prior discussion in that they do not have the ability [:D] but I see your point here, if all ASMs are to be assumed to have it, this one is not showing signs of it.

I have not noticed before if the altitude listed however is AGL or ASL... if the former, it can be the same number, if the latter the number should alternate depending on the terrain.

Haha. Ok.

So these guys really shouldn't be tunneling through the fjords then [:D]

Unable to reproduce in Build 471, the missiles maintain a steady 20m/60ft AGL.

The displayed altitude seems to be AGL, which should not change anyway. 61m AGL will not go through the ground, it will remain 61m AGL, regardless of how high the "GL" is. Is that what this is showing then, that it just reads out an altitude AGL as you stated D?

Sirens fly at 61m (over land and sea) in First Contact 2016 and I can still reproduce exactly this behavior where (at least Sirens) will not follow terrain, as the screen shot above shows.

Here's a screen shot of a Sapless from the same scenario showing correct terrain following.

No, I meant constant AGL. Their barometric altitude changes according to terrain elevation.

Ran this yet again to make a save file.

This attempt resulted in Sapless which appeared to be behaving correctly sometimes (see above screenie)to now behave badly (flying at 9m while "over" 360m elevation land)

Still a problem in build 474.

Looks like it only affects missiles that have no targets.

Please see attached save file.
