My last 'Stang i designed to get 30mpg @90mph with a 4bbl and 5 spd and to use as a daily driver ... I put on almost 460,000 miles on it. I was a little off, I only got ~28mpg @90mph. But, I could get 32mpg @ 75mph. Always passed emissions too ... the state inspectors were always under the hood trying to figure out how I did it. [;)]

My calcs tell me that I should be able to get ~25mpg city driving if I only have the turbo engaged, maybe +35mpg on the highway @80mph. Firing up the twin charger fully though and the cam fully engaged ... yeah I think I run through 1 Liter of fuel in like 20 secs @ 6000 rpm. But that's how you get +1200hp ... fast conversion of fuel into power. [:D] I'm just trying to do it efficiently.
Anyway, the rest of it will be in a '68 Stang body stripped down to about 2800 lbs (about 400 more than NASCAR) with an 8spd stick (like the new 'Vettes). Geared for 1800 rpm @70mph. Suspension will be modded like my previous one, I could pull 0.98g turns. JFZ Nascar-type calipers up front, 4000 psi aviation brake lines. 2.5" suspension travel. 4" ground clearance.

Sounds impressive. My last 'muscle' car wasn't actually too muscly. In NC I had a 75 Nova with a strait 6 for about 2 years. Drove my 45 minute commute to Raleigh twice daily getting less than 20mpg! Yuck.
Neither my dad or uncle ever got me in the garage to teach me how these things work, which always makes me a little sad.
You should post a pic or two of the mustangs. Those late 60s models are real nice.

The younger son though already likes to be Daddy's "tool pusher". 4yo and already remembers every step in an oil change from where the catch tank is stored to leak checking underneath at the end. He also knows most of the tool names and can hand me the right tool when I ask for it. Amazing what a kid can learn when they want to.
I'm thinking he and I will build the next one together. With the motor 90% done, I'll be looking for a chassis this winter to start on. Given I was able to drive the first one as long as I did, this one should be the one I give to the younger son when he's 18. Although knowing him, he will want to build his own which will be fine.

Which is good. My Dad always thought a car was just to get him from point A to B, nothing more. He was right of course from that perspective. My perspective is that my time going from A to B should be more ... I want it to be fun. I want Disneyland's Matterhorn every trip. Everyone has their own perspective. I figure all the time I have to spend in a car, I want it to be fun. Oh, and I don't trust anyone to maintain my car but me. I bought a new Datsun 280Z Turbo in 1983 with all that sub and sea pay. My one sports car. Orange and yellow, named "Garfield." Took him to Oahu, put 1500 miles on in two years. [:)] But I looked gooooood cruisin' down Kalakaua Blvd with the T-top removed, in my best aloha shirt and Tom Selleck shades!
Brought him home pre-grad school, could not afford payments or insurance. Bought a rusty beater for school and sold him to my dad who had been car crazy in the 1940s in CA. The car was stolen by joy-riders who bottomed out at 130 going over RR tracks and wiped the suspension. The police recovered him, and my dad rebuilt a lot of the car mechanically. He painted him gray, had some Koreans he knew rip out the whole interior and re-do in gray eel skin, and drove him as his fun car for years. Took him to Montana at retirement and eventually sold to a neighbor. When I go out there we drive by the ranch and he's sitting next to a beef corral, semi-retired. Quite a life he's led.
I put my car genes into playing with computers. Cars never interested me that much, except my first, a 1969 Ford LTD with a HUGE bench seat in back. But it's a family forum, so I'll demur. [:)]

My first car that I bought myself was a 1991 Acura Integra. I drove that car for 18 yrs before selling it to my neighbor who was in a jam for a vehicle. It was the proverbial sale for $1 kind of deal as I was just going to donate it to charity otherwise. He threw in a gift certificate for a restaurant so I sold my baby for a can of coke and a steak dinner. [:D]
I'm now driving a 2009 Honda Accord Coupe that will be paid off in May next year. I like the car, but sure miss having a hatchback.

I must be the only one who never owned a car, then.
Got my driver licence in the army. It came with the rank, the TOE said I have a jeep, and so I must have a licence. Training was optional, though, as trainers were few, and their time was better spent teaching the guys who actually drove those big trucks with expensive khaki stuff in them.
So I had a licence, but couldn't drive. And so I never bought a car, since I couldn't drive, and never learnt to drive, since I didn't own a car...
There were a few close calls. A couple years ago, we moved into a small town, where a car was definitely needed, and neither of us could drive (birds of a feather). But in the end, my wife got her licence, and learnt, and she got a car, and I'm still on foot.

I'm sans licence now! Mine from North carolina expired and the UK license is a long expensive process, so I've not gotten one yet. I actually much prefer having quick tube journeys where I can read while I'm going. It would be nice for trips to the country though. That's where I miss the driving.

Yeah .. for another 20 years or so. H2 engines will replace, but the only source for H2 now is oil. Hold it, were not making any progress here. So, H2 engines don't really catch on until Fusion (hot fusion, not the cold fusion) is commercial and that's still about 20 years out. Sure it is. Try to build a 1200hp car that will still get 25mpg in town. 1200hp isn't that hard, but they tend to get 0.1 mpg. 25mpg is easy, you do it with 200hp. My way is far more fun. [:D]ORIGINAL: SqzMyLemon

In case some of you are wondering why all the blogging and no game info it's because Jocke's computer crashed and we've been in limbo until he can get things sorted out. That being said we're going to pause the game until after the Christmas break as he's off on a trip here and won't be able to complete a turn before he leaves. It works out great for me as I hope to get some serious model time in over the Holiday, but I only have five days off this year. I think I'll post some economic numbers for this game when I get a chance especially with so much Japanese economy discussions happening around the forum. It will give people a chance to see what I've done up to this point.
I've spent a ton on R&D, but my reasoning is I've spent almost 3/4 of 1942 only fighting in China, so the supply I saved not having to replace losses went into R&D. Pax's numbers worry me, but until you do this yourself and see the consequences of your actions you'll never really understand how things will go. I'm curious to see how many aircraft I've actually built so far. I've turned off most aircraft production during 1942 as there was no need to have large pools of aircraft due to the lack of combat. My plan has always been to invest in mid/late war aircraft at the expense of being overly aggressive in 1942.

I saved supply from fewer offensive operations and put that into R&D. The supply I invested in early R&D for late war models will mean my factories are already at production level numbers so some supply should only be needed to tweak the numbers. The low number of 1942 aircraft I've built should translate into HI savings for the late war. That's the plan, but it's going to take two years to find out the results!

I was just killing some time looking at my production yesterday and tried to get my Ki-61-Ib factories to upgrade to the Ki-100-I. They stayed fully repaired after switching to the Ki-61-d model, but then became damaged switching to the Ki-100-I or 100-II models. Am I doing something out of sequence or just plain wrong?

I was just killing some time looking at my production yesterday and tried to get my Ki-61-Ib factories to upgrade to the Ki-100-I. They stayed fully repaired after switching to the Ki-61-d model, but then became damaged switching to the Ki-100-I or 100-II models. Am I doing something out of sequence or just plain wrong?
