Are you sure you have enough power.

Yes, I'm certain--these ships all had power surpluses even after accounting for weapons, maneuvering, and shield recharge.

I did manage to see my spaceport activate a hyperdeny field when it attacked a smuggling ship, so I guess that is working appropriately.

I've noticed in my current game with the beta patch that hyperdeny components onboard my ships never activate.

Edit: Hyperdeny on bases seems to work very well.

If you check his post, it's on the ship the problem, and not on base.

It's easy to check if it's a bug or not, build a ship with hyperdeny field and if it work corectly it's not a bug.

I cannot check this because I am playing other games at the moment.

I've noticed that in 1.9.0.12 the auto refit when available suggestion doesn't activate. Is it just me ? and I have changed a setting somewhere, when I check the policy it is still ticked to suggest refit when available but it isn't happening.

Nice fixes, but my AV (Zone Alarm Extreme Security) program says the patch has a virus in it.
HEUR:Trojan.Win32.Generic
It claims it was high risk (?) and that it was treated. That has never happened before with a patch.

One thing you can do when your local antivirus reports something like this (for any file) is to upload the file to Virustotal or similar site for scanning by a big amount of antivirus programs.

I did it for this update and got 2/49 alerts (one is from an outdated program), which points to a false positive.
https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/a98c ... 386971951/

That way you can see if you get many warnings, which points to high risk file.

New patch? Great!
Let me see... RESOURCES AND FREIGHTERS... huh... Developers, can you answer me: WHY YOU CAN'T DO OPTIONAL RESOURCE DEPLETION!?!?!? Tell me one good reason! Space Empires V had this option, why you can't do the same?

DIFFICULTY LEVELS
  • Buying tech from other empires is more expensive for the player
  • Selling tech to other empires is less lucrative for the player
Some feedback 15 years into my first game with the 1.9.0.12 Beta to test the change above on Extreme. I have $2.5M of spare credits despite having 0% tax on all my worlds while funding large fleets (only limited by how fast I can build), new colonies and crash research. All of this has been funded by selling technology. It remains the case that the only choice for experienced players is to avoid technology selling as it's completely gamechanging.

Just how significant were these changes? As I've mentioned elsewhere technologies are overpriced by something like a factor of 10 on Extreme.

Please take this into consideration and ajust the price of selling tech

Ran the updater to 1.9.0.12 which reported a successful update, and when I click 'Play' absolutely nothing happens. Task Manager doesn't even report a process starting.
Reverted to 0.11 and all works normally.

Re-Downloaded the 19012 beta.
Did a fresh DW install updated to Shadows.
Patched to 19012 and clicking Play does nothing. (Have to turn Off ZoneAlarm or it disables the install due to a Trojan detection as mentioned above)
Revert to 19011 with the Launcher updater, Play now works normally.

Any ideas whats going on with 19012?

I'm guessing you re-enabled ZoneAlarm once you'd installed the update? If so, it's likely that it's blocking you from running the game for the same reason it tried to stop you installing it. As I mentioned earlier, you need to tell your AV to ignore DW (or disable it whenever you run the game, but that's not advised.) Probably best to tell it to ignore the entire DW folder to be sure there aren't any DLLs it doesn't like.

For ZoneAlarm users:

1 Choose 'Computer' view details
2 In 'Anti-virus & Anti-spyware' select 'Settings'
3 At the lower right select 'Advanced Settings'
4 From the list on the left of new dialogue box choose 'Exceptions'
5 Then click 'Add' on the lower right
6 Click 'Browse' in the next dialogue box
7 In the file locator window find your offending DW file and select it - then click 'Open'

Your DW file should now be excluded from checks by ZoneAlarm

Edit: The offending file for me was the downloaded zip file: DistantWorldsShadows-update19012.zip

Edit2: If the file is 'quarantined' then you need to 'restore' it from that area. After you have done so, follow instructions from 1 above.

Now what. The PC says it cannot access the file
Fixed
My anti virus was blocking it.
Even after shutting off the Anti virus it still keeps coming up and saying there is a problem.
Annoying.

I had the same problem, ZA AV will have deleted the file, you'll likely have to reinstall the whole thing. In my case, I always keep a back-up of the current release version, so I simply had to restore from my back up, without having to reinstall from scratch.
