... would it be possible to move the Jap planes at that airfield to some other airfield so that they don't get bombarded on turn 1 by the Allies?
I took a look and actually all the Jap airfields are within range of possible naval bombardment. The turn 1 start locations limit the airfield attacks, but after turn 1 the US player can move those naval units anywhere and attack any of the Jap airfields. So, I don't think there is anything I can do.

I guess maybe we can make excuses and say that if the US player wants to bomb planes instead of the Jap defenders, then there is that trade off ?
Oh. Ok. Well, it doesn't really matter then I guess. There's some airfields way up north that may be too far from the action to be of
any use to the Japs.

I see the scenario designer (John P. Boomershine) succeeded in getting Elmer to pull off Amphibious Invasions. Hip Hip [&o]
Oh, cool. I didn't know there was a problem. Elmer doesn't want to do amphibious invasions? He's managing here.

And talking about airplanes, the condition of some of the Jap planes is appalling. Somebody is going to need some rest before I get to
fly him seriously.

Here's a typical supply display for the Japs and as you can see supply is only adequate around the rails. Out in the boonies supply
levels drop off pretty fast. I guess I ( or Steve ) need(s) to change the radius of supply applicability or whatever it's called. But I want
to keep going and see how it plays this way first.

Here's an example of where we have the fighters and bombers lumped together into one unit and I can't use the fighters of this unit for
AS missions lest the bombers get shot down. Kind of limits what use I can get out of the fighters. But w/ the anti-ship values that the
bombers have ( same as the Stuka in FITE ) I'm guessing I'll have to use these guys to go after the ships, specifically the carriers.

According to the expected reinforcements display there's a whole lot of planes and destroyers that are going to be transfered to other
Home Islands for defense and I won't get to use them anymore. D'oh. So I'll have to try to use them up by the end of turn 5.

This is what it looks like just before I resolve the combat phase. Elmer is coming at me at at least three main points ( with a one-hex
diversion ). If I was really industrious I would sit down and make some objectives for Elmer to follow that would have everybody
landing at one place so they could support each other better. The way Elmer is doing it right now.....I'm thinking that those places are
relatively isolated from each other and can be cut up piece meal one at a time or maybe all at the same time.

Um......I'm resolving attacks and I came to one that seems remarkable. Very bloody result of one of my CDA guns hitting an element of
the 3rd Marine Division. Plus the turn isn't over yet. I may be able to do it again and maybe disappear the unit.

EDIT: I got a better read on the target in this attack......turns out this was the 3rd Marine Division HQ unit and I killed the General in
charge of the whole shooting match. That division may be in reorg now.

I got into a gun fight w/ TG 57.2, the British part of the Allied fleet locally. It seems like I got one of each kind of ship and lost a bunch of
good equipment. All 5 of the big guns are gone so I'm going to retire this unit ( the 603rd CDA ) if possible.

Here's a Jap naval attack on a different stack. Lost a bunch of planes and didn't get much to show for it. To make it worse, I attacked
the wrong stack. There's no CV in the list of Allied equipment. D'oh. I need better intell.

Yeah........here's the kind of combat result I was looking for from my Naval Attackers. 5 Allied CV's sunk out of 5. Plus some other
kinds of ships as loose change. I'll never be able to use those squadrons for anything serious from now on though because of their
losses. And they are tired now.

It looks like I may have killed the commander of the 43rd Inf Div while he was floating in the water. Maybe that division is in reorg now.
And it looks like the bombardment was devestating. And there's a round two maybe, coming yet.

Here's a mega-three-dot attack on some Allied stuff that made it ashore just to be assaulted by my valient fighters. Ignore losses I said
and they did a job on the Americans. It was like a Banzi attack.

Elmer is coming at me at at least three main points ...

Elmer is going by the original plan, as seen in this screen shot. I've played the US side against Elmer several times using this plan and get murdalized each time.

For the mod, it might be interesting if we use different objective tracks to mix it up a bit.

I like that. Great idea. I kinda like the track I took in the Allied side of this AAR. It's great
to have the units adjacent and able to support each other. It was almost too easy.

I have a lot of civilians to think of when I consider using Nerve Gas. I'd just as soon not get us started using CW this trip through the
scenario.

The Allies are having the most success on the East side. I'm going to have to see if I can't re-capture the supply source for those
dudes going cross-country. Then take my time killing them. Maybe get around to it later.

Ok (adds to list of things to do). For a small scenario, this one is taking a lot of time to dress up. Not complaining, just being surprised. I spent several hours on the events alone, and there are only 128 in the scenario !

I'm spending my Friday night separating the Jap are units and spreading them out, which should make it a little more difficult for the US ships to clock many of them on turn 1.

Still in the thought process on the objective tracks, but if I spiff up the US side, I should probably put some time into helping the Jap PO if the US player doesn't come at all three beaches. By the way, not only did the US plan to land at three widely separated beaches, they also planned a fourth landing on X+4 with the IX Corp at the Plymouth Beach area (15,66). I know they weren't idiots, but in my experience it doesn't play out well in the scenario. They must have known something I don't (of course, I don't know anything so this makes sense).

In the process of checking on a few things online, I've done some light reading on this Operation Downfall/Olympic/Coronet situation. One source said that the Japs weren't seriously considering using CW because of the ramifications. The US was, however, considering it seriously, in order to combat the tunnel and cave systems.

In this mod, so far I'm thinking of making the US use CW if they don't make good progress. Then the Japs will have a percentage chance of retaliating. Then the US has a percentage chance of retaliating - with tactical nukes. Its kind of set up that way already, but some of the events are a little wonky.
