Commander: The Great War 1.4.0 Public Beta

Commander - The Great War is the latest release in the popular and playable Commander series of historical strategy games. Gamers will enjoy a huge hex based campaign map that stretches from the USA in the west, Africa and Arabia to the south, Scandinavia to the north and the Urals to the east on a new engine that is more efficient and fully supports widescreen resolutions.
Commander – The Great War features a Grand Campaign covering the whole of World War I from the invasion of Belgium on August 5, 1914 to the Armistice on the 11th of November 1918 in addition to 16 different unit types including Infantry, Cavalry, Armoured Cars and Tanks, Artillery, Railroad Guns and Armoured Trains and more!

Hello Everyone,


First install Patch V1.4.0, afterwards install the Hotfix V1.4.1 over this patch.


- We have a new Public Open Beta V1.4.0 ready for testing. Download it in our Members Club.

- Hotfix V1.4.1 (for Open Beta Patch V1.4.0 from Matrix Members Club) is here:

First install Patch V1.4.0, afterwards install the Hotfix V1.4.1 over this patch.



Below is a list of changes for this build.

V1.4.0 – February 7, 2014 Patch
V1.4.1 - February 10, 2014 Hotfix

Main changelog:

Various bug and stability fixes, based on feedback and reports we got from testers on the first 1.4 Open Beta patch dated from December last year.

So what has been changed with the Open Beta Patch 1.4.1

1 : Entente has less PPs. ( plus the Entente War Effort Increases In Stages )

2 : Central Powers have more PPs.

3 : Garrisons now take 2 turns to build.

4 : Infantry now take 4 turns to build.

5 : Britain Transport capacity reduced to 2. ( still double any other nation )

6 : Artillery,Rail & Transport now costs more to increase their capacity.

7 : Port & Green Area Defence, now much more of a deterrant too attacking forces.

8 : Fighter aircraft from the start off the war, are little more than Air Recon.

9 : Research has been slowed slightly,even when focused.

10 : Brugge & Small Garrison in Belgium removed from the game.

11 : Infantry unit in Belgium reduced to a Garrison unit.

12 : 2 German Garrison units near Metz fortress, are now Infantry units.

13 : Bulgaria now does join the war.

14 : Canadian Corps now arrive in Britain as per the Event Message.

15 : German Baltic Convoy message,now correctly reports that Russia has blockaded German Ports in the Baltic.

16 : Italy not as strong as before.

Various other changes.


Notes:

- MP play is now restricted to Beta server.
- Please all who participate in further testing, start new MP challenges and Single Player games to test stability.

In case anybody is interested, it should be pointed out, that once you go from 1.30 to 1.40 beta all your MP games are wiped out, GONE! (at least, in my case that's what happened, or it might be because I had to get a new computer, not sure). There is no trace of "any kind" of MP activity, present or past. I feel like an ass, for I had about 15 MP matches going on.

Don't worry, that is not true at all ;)

All your games are still here, you just don't see them because beta-testers play now on betatest server. Once 1.4 is officially released, game will be using production servers and you will see your games again.

Since it is not possible to have 2 installations of the game (1.3 and 1.4 beta at the same time), if you want to continue your current MP games I suggest you re-install your game and update to 1.3 only.

Gameplay changes / balancing:

o New land unit Small Garrison added to the game.
o First Russian Revolution date changed from February 1916, to February 1917.
o USA war entry merchant convoy losses reduced.( USA WAR ENTRY NOW MORE LIKELY )
o City name change Southampton renamed Portsmouth.(This was the main British Naval base during WORLD WAR 1)
o Additional Fortresses added to the map include : Metz,Novo-Georgievsk,Arad.
o The following cities have been upgraded to Capitals : Dublin,Helsinki,Algiers,
o The following additional Cities have been added to the map : Brugge,Larissa,Kraljevo,Veliko Tarnovo.
o Added Cuxhaven,Stettin,Tallin,Oran,Toulon,Cattaro,Suez,Port Said,Gaza,Beirut,Aquba,Kuwait ports.
o Significantly increased Port defensive & offensive bonuses.
o French Infantry unit in North Africa based in Algeirs, added to the map.
o Turkey,Serbia,Bulgaria,Romania now have Artillery.
o Disbanding your Countries Battlefleets incurrs a minus 30 morale penalty.
o Ship defense increased, Battleships are now much more damage resistant.
o Russian Battleship now based in Petrograd.
o Cruisers now have bombardment capability.
o All Scenario Fleet sizes increased.
o Battleship, Cruiser build times increased.
o Anti-Submarine technology upgrade effects reduced.( Submarine warfare is now a viable option )
o Submarine Production costs lowered,Build time lowered,Line of sight increased,Attack & Defence increased, meaning they are now a potential war winning weapon.
o Bomber,Artillery effectivness reduced

Various other bug fixes….

Only just fired it up to see if it had downloaded ok - couple of things I noticed about the new Small Garrison unit, first it has the same NATO icon as a regular garrison so you can't tell them apart from looking at the map, second the tutorial text for them is missing.

P.S. The start in Serbia is a whole new game [:)]

Played through to the Spring of 1915 versus the AI.

Love the small garrison units, knowing your rear areas have some defences is huge. Stops it being quite such a blitzkreig initially.

Germany blew through Belgium, then got stalled. Russian front is pretty much at a standstill and England is focusing on Egypt for now. Some BEF forces in France, but only holding the sea coast.

Two small things

- intro video does not play as well as the briefing videos
- first time I clicked on a small garrison the advice window opened but only said "advice_smallgarrison_text"

advice_smallgarrison_title = SMALL GARRISON
advice_smallgarrison_text = Small Garrison are Static defense units, used to occupy cities behind the frontlines.They represent your Countries older population, who are considered to old for front line duties.

Hi I have asked the software wiz kid to check on the video and text issues. Must say I'm not seeing any problems, but that just using my PC.

Yes, video playback is disabled in this patch sorry, there should be no text issues tho. What is the problem you are experiencing?

Holidays or not we have to get this great game fully operational, early into the new year, as an official release and not a beta patch, I for one will still be testing and trying to fix any problems that crop up along the way.[;)]

the font is different...its like one type is normal and the other is bigger, that way its not fitting as it should be..
for example when is the number 2 i see only 85% of the size, i dont see the other 15% from the bottom.

also when i run the autoexe...the game its not in full scrren....altrough the full screen is activated.
to have full screen i must open the other executable.
never had this in 1.30
