So, I'm working with a customer with a voice ds1 down. It took an act of God, but we got a telco tech to go out this morning. He calls me up, and in a smarny voice tells me it's up, the problem is on my side, and he's going to charge the customer for me wasting his time. Client can be heard in the back ground getting ready to tear me a new one because he has been down since Tuesday. I dive into the equipment in a panic wondering just what I missed. While waiting for a connection to be established, I ask him how he knows it's up. He tells me he is talking to me on it. "Crap' I think, wondering how or what I missed. So I ask him, what is he using to talk to me, a phoenix or a t-byrd. He tells me he is on his butt set*.............. [8|][8|][8|]

I asked him to put me on speaker. And I stand up, so everyone in my office is looking at me as well. And I say in a loud, clear voice "You mean to tell me you called me, using your butt set, on a T1 circuit, and you do not think there is a problem?" The office erupts in laughter around me. Client can be heard in the back ground asking the telco guy what is so funny. Line disconnects.

This is what we have come to. I can't make this up.

*for those that don't know, a butt set is what telco guys use to test a regular, analog, telephone line
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Eye is much better thanks for all the well wishes and poll to see if they want to get better or not...

I really hate my bi-focals. They work, but not well at computer range. Hopefully I will be able to put the contacts back in tomorrow morning if I don't have any irritation in that eye for a day. That will be such a relief. My vision is so bad without correction and, as such, my glasses don't have very good side vision and my peripheral vision is terrible. I rely on it so much that I have almost pulled out in front of two cars in the last two days. So used to just looking slightly left to check for oncoming traffic instead of all the way left...

In the late 80's the local phone company took down the T-1 between two of our data centers because they were doing some maintenance or other. The excuse? "Well we waited until after 5:00 PM"!

BTW, the same "maintenance" cross-connected our dial-up backup lines with the gas station on the corner. The backup lines stayed up just fine, until the gas station would get get a phone call...

No, you can't make up this stuff.

Thank you Chickenboy and Nashvillen for your support in my playoff match up. I'm starting out a 30 point underdog.

The INP was a nice touch. [;)]

It's been extremely warm (records both Sat and Sun) here, in the upper 70's, but today's rain is bringing cooler temps. I just saw the hourly forecast temperatures through 8am Christmas morning: 29 degrees. If that holds true, my Christmas morning swim in our new pool will be an official Polar Bear swim. [:D]

I'm gonna make sure our new fireplace is already cranked up to go with my eggnog post swim. [8D]

You had better turn off the heater today so the water temp can keep pace! [:D]
