Missing squadron

Post by spence »

It appears that VB-135 (PV-1s) is not included in the game. No big deal I suppose. Just happened to look for it in my PBEM and it turned out not to be anywhere to be found. From what I can find it was one of the very first squadrons of PV-1s to be formed and committed to action in the PTO.

I went to the VPNavy website to confirm my recollections and just happened to notice that there were some recently declassified AARs for night bombing/reconnaissance missions against Paramushiro/Shimushu from May of 1944. This was the squadron's second tour in the Aleutians (who did they pi$$ off?). The planes (new planes) were newly fitted with LORAN A to give them a better chance of getting there and back again.

It's really kind of weird to note the declassification date to these AARs: 31 December 2012!

It is in the game. VP-42 has a rename 43-02-15 to VB-135. VB-135 then withdraws on 43-11-05 and returns again as VB-135 44-02-03.

Glad you guys got it figured out. All the re-designations with numbers and types must have driven Axis intel types absolutely bonkers.
