China
Bombed

Burma
Japs bomb my units in the open above Prome. We lose around 100 troops. Japs lose 7 Helens with a bunch damaged. So I did a few bombardment missions to find out the strength of some Jap stacks. I will post a pic in the next post. Jap units moving towards Taung Gyi from Lashio area. Jap tank unit reaches Lashio. I thought Koniu was going to attack yesterday and he didn't.

Northern Oz
We pick up ships in Kai elianden's harbor. I sent in bombing missions and miss the ship at anchor, but find out that it was a small CL SAG.

Hansa Bay
We attack and kill some troops nothing big.

2 more subs are hit from Air ASW.

1. Hex south of Taung Gyi. Japs have 1 ID (461 AV) 1 tank unit (52 AV). I have 1 Oz ID (479 AV), 1 Chinese Corp (830 AV, 43 Squads), 1 Tank rgt (50 AV). I am still learning the land combat model. I want to attack here. I don't know how well my units will do in a Jungle rough terrain. I have the raw AV, but will it be enough. What do you guys think. If I can take the hex, I am cutting off the main escape route and supply route for Taung Gyi. Leaving atleast 4 IDs cut off.

2. Taung Gyi. Japs have 2 IDs (885 AV), 1 Tank unit (273 AV). I don't know the fort Lv. I have 3 IDs (1,226 AV), 1 Chinese Corp (482 AV), 1 Tank Bde (208 AV). I think I will need more troops here.

3. Hex North east of Taung Gyi. Japs have atleast 2 IDs with supporting units and 3 Inf Rgts. I have 2 IDs, Chinese Corp, several BDEs, and 3 tank units moving to this hex.

My thoughts are to maybe attack hex 1. I have this feeling that I will need to pull atleast one more ID and prob a tank unit down here to be sure that I will win the hex and cut off Taung Gyi. I am also trying to move some small units on the yellow road that heads south from Taung Gyi.

Any thoughts.

You could "probe" it first with a small deliberate attack, perhaps one Bde.

I am thinking about doing a DA at Hex 1. Maybe I can draw off an ID from Taung Gyi or from the hex north of it.

Ok shamelessly adding to my post and hit count.

China
Bombed

Burma
Bombed. I bombarded again at Taung Gyi and the hex south of that. I inflicted some causalities at Taung Gyi and took some at the hex south of that. I'm going to move an ID and a tank BDE from Lashio area down to the hex south of Taung Gyi. I got signet reports that a Jap ID was coming to Rangoon. I have been watching for them for a few days and I think my NavS has spotted them. I have 6 ships on my radar. They are 8 hexs south of Rangoon. I have subs patrolling in the possible routes he could take to Rangoon. A CA SAG is moving into position. I expect the TF to be in the Rangoon hex by the end of the day tomorrow. The ship that was named is an 18 knot xAKt. I am assuming that they all are 18 knot ships. Subs and bomber will take the first whack at this TF.

Everywhere else has been bombed or quiet.

China
Bombed

Burma
we did a deliberate attack south of Taung Gyi. We got a 1:1. Results posted below. The 150th RAC took a beating. It will have to rest for awhile. I am ordering another attack tomorrow. Lets hope we do better than today. I had transports flying in supplies this last turn and they were attacked. I have ordered a big sweep for tomorrow. I see Jap units moving towards this hex one is from Toungoo and the other is from Taung Gyi. If Koniu pulls out an ID or the tank unit I will attack Taung Gyi.

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 33201 troops, 334 guns, 441 vehicles, Assault Value = 1363

Defending force 14645 troops, 173 guns, 150 vehicles, Assault Value = 519

Allied adjusted assault: 843

Japanese adjusted defense: 622

Allied assault odds: 1 to 1

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
852 casualties reported
Squads: 2 destroyed, 54 disabled
Non Combat: 2 destroyed, 15 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 5 disabled
Guns lost 31 (8 destroyed, 23 disabled)
Vehicles lost 18 (2 destroyed, 16 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
136 casualties reported
Squads: 1 destroyed, 33 disabled
Non Combat: 3 destroyed, 40 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 3 disabled
Vehicles lost 76 (11 destroyed, 65 disabled)

Assaulting units:
150th RAC Regiment
6th Australian Division
6th Chinese Corps
77th Heavy AA Regiment
14th Indian Light AA Regiment

Defending units:
18th Division
2nd Tank Regiment
3rd Ind. Mountain Gun Regiment
8th RF Gun Battalion

Rangoon
My subs only attack LBs. The TF makes it to port. My SAGs have not been spotted. A 3 DD SAG will go in first to clear the LBs, then my CA SAG will go in afterwards. I am pretty sure a CA can go up to Rangoon. I mentioned to Koniu that I was nervous about this turn. He made fun of me by saying, your subs just keep attacking my LBs, I am still shaking. Lets see what he says tomorrow. I hope he really is shaking.

I have to subs spotted and will be attacked tomorrow. One was attacked today but the DEs failed to find it. This was by Johnson Island. The other sub is east of Bowen Oz.

China
bombed

Burma
It didn't go as expected. Japs moved a BB SAG into our path. We battle it out all night with it. CR posted below. After that Jap bombers go hunting for our ships. They find them under heavy CAP. Loses will be posted in a pic below also. US sub TTs 3 different xAKs. One is reported sunk, another with heavy damage and heavy fires, the last one listed as having heavy fires. We also sink a mini sub.

Japanese Ships
BB Yamashiro, Shell hits 25, on fire
CL Natori, Shell hits 1
DD Murakumo
DD Asagiri
DD Matsukaze
DD Hayate
DD Numakaze

Allied Ships
DD Hutchins, Shell hits 1
DD Radford, Shell hits 2
DD Terry, Shell hits 18, Torpedo hits 4, and is sunk

Night Time Surface Combat, near Rangoon at 54,54, Range 6,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
BB Yamashiro, on fire
CL Natori, Shell hits 6, heavy fires
DD Murakumo
DD Asagiri
DD Matsukaze
DD Hayate, Shell hits 1, on fire
DD Numakaze, Shell hits 1

Allied Ships
CA Shropshire, Shell hits 4
CL Emerald, Shell hits 2
CL Santa Fe, Shell hits 1
DD Converse
DD Dashiell, Shell hits 4, on fire
DD DeHaven
DD Dyson, Shell hits 5, on fire
DD Foote
DD Nestor

I know its not good to mix ships but its what I had. We lose 1 DD for an SSX. Maybe the CL will sink. Lets hope. I don't know where this SAG came from I didn't see it on my NavS (not a shocker). The xAKs were of the same type intel told me about. None of them had troops on board. I did get 2 messages that fuel cargo was burning on 2 of them. But Rangoons unit count went up by 2 units but total number of troops went down. HMMMM Our attack south of Taung Gyi doesn't go to well. 1:2 odds. Not bad but I can't keep it up with more units coming in. We sweep the hex south of Taung Gyi and find nothing. Rest of the map is quiet.

Thanks for visiting Koniu. LOL There's an Oh SHIT moment.

4th Dec 43

China
Bombed

Burma
On the second, Japs sent a few fighter squadrons to sweep Ramree. I'll post the planes lost screen. I also ordered a DA for the hex north of Taung Gyi. It didn't go well for us. One BDE is decimated. Koniu has moved 3 IRs into the hex south of Taung Gyi. I think he is moving atleast one of them down to Rangoon to rebuild. I am going to move in another ID, Chinese Corp, and a tank BDE into this hex instead of Taung Gyi. Taung Gyi now has 3 IDs in it. We have sunk a bunch of LBs outside of Rangoon. A sub is damaged during patrol outside of Rangoon also. An AMc was sunk by another sub in the shallow waters. 4 DDs have been looking for my subs, so 4 Fletchers will make a trip to visit these DDs.

Pbang
I mined the entrance of the Pbang river on the 2nd I think. Today we bagged a PB.

The rest of the map has be quiet. We have bombed a few places.

Quiet turn.  We lose 2 subs to Air ASW another is damaged.  We do sink an I boat off of Oz.

How big are Jap tank divisions.  I have an A and C component listed as 251 unadjusted AV in my reports.  Am I missing something here.

Burma
We try and catch the 20 plane CAP over Moulmein, but find nothing.  Bombers do some damage on the AF though.

Oz
Getting tired of the NavS around Townsville.  I think there is one more sub with a float plane around but Nells are doing most of the recon.  I need to stop them.

Quiet turn.  I am sending in another resupply mission to the Marshalls.  I have another op getting ready to start.  So some excitement is in the future.

China
Bombed.  Japs are reconing some new Chinese bases.  I wonder what for?

Burma
Will probably have to do a map for this one.  Land units moving around trying to force or find a week spot.  Jap DDs are hunting for subs south of Rangoon. I send some B25Gs after them on LowNav.  We do some damage with 50 cal and 75mm rounds, but no bomb hits.  Most subs have pulled back for repairs or to refuel and wait for the DDs to leave.  I must be doing something right to have atleast 6 DDs patrolling around for my subs.  My DDs are all repairing so no chance at a surface battle.

Oz
Several Nells have been shot down during recon or NavS flights over the last 2 turns.  So today no sightings around my Oz bases.  That's a good thing.  Some of my TF between MB and Oz has been sighted but that's ok.  If you can't tell I have plans for this area very soon.

Marshalls
CAP trap set and sprung.  Atleast 16 Helens are shot down by Marines in F4Us.  21 Helens attacked and none made it thru the CAP. I had LRCAP over Maloelap but the P40s were out of place so the bombers made it thru.  No loses on the day.  I have withdrawn all but 2 of the Corsairs.  I had to move the P40s to Maloelap so they can get there drop tanks.   I have several resupply TFs moving into the area. My lead groups have not been spotted yet.  My CVLs have been though.  But they are about 2 days behind the other TFs.

No turn for a few days.

Next Op. Invasion of Saumlaki. I have APAs, AKAs and the rest of the gang going to load troops. Combat Naval and ground assets listed in screenie. My worry is the KB crashing the party. I will move subs into probable KB attacking spots. I will also try to close as many of the Jap AFs in the area as possible.

Good luck! [:)]

Can you get some CATs flying search from Babar or any of the dot bases? That should give you enough warning of KB is around.

Love watching a plan! Joc is right about search. I think I see some empty green dots. Can you slip in a tender to his rear and get a seaplane base up off SW New Guinea?

I have supplies being delivered to Babar. I will fly in some AvSup to operate some Cats.  I am also sending some tenders to the SW New Guinea coast to also support some Cats.  So I am planning for some NavS right now just forgot to mention it in the earlier posts.
