Issues with Storms of Steal Install

Bought the game two days ago - posted this also with a Matrix help ticket - but nobody has responded in 24 hours!

Purchased the download and boxed version... I have tried two different installs:

1st - stand alone

2nd - same local as Awakening the Bear


Upon trying to run the game (actually play it) it does not engage.

Also - with the install to Awakening the Bear - there is NO option to play Storms of Steel.

So - is there an issue with the download files? Missing somekind of executable perhaps?

I have many games from Matrix - and this is the is 1st instances of an install issue.

What should I do - or what can be done?

same issue here Tiger 88, if I do a stand alone the game does not start. I looked in the install directory and it doesn't appear to be a complete install as there aren't near as many files/directories as Awak. the Bear. If I put in the Awakening the Bear directory the main menu shows up as Storms of Steel and the game starts OK but the SOS scenarios/campaigns do not show up to play. They are there in the in the data sub folder but dont show up...........WTF!

Guy's I don't know if this will help but this is what it looks like with my digital download. SOS installs directly to the AB folder. This is just a page I slapped together. https://sites.google.com/site/conflictsofheroes/

Sorry to see you're having problems. I'm going to have to let the Matrix guys address this issue since I don't have anything directly to do with the installer design, and this sounds like it's an installer issue.

I've tried different installation combinations, and I was not able to reproduce your issues. I suspect that it might be a corrupted installation, probably related with the game Windows registry keys.
Please try the following if you have 64-bit Windows version:


1. Uninstall all the expansions and the base game
2. Locate the folder where the games were installed and delete any files and folders that might still be there after having uninstalled the game
3. Unzip "CoH_ClRegX64.zip" ( zip file attached in this message)
4. Double click on the extracted file, "CoH_ClRegX64.reg", and give permission for the "program" to delete all main Windows registry keys related with the game.
5. Install "CoH - Awakening the Bear"
6. Install "CoH - Ghost Divisions" (in case you have it)
7. Install "CoH - Storms of Steel"

Please ensure that all the expansions are installing in the exact same folder where "Awakening the Bear" is installed.

Hello,
I purchased Storms of Steel yesterday, having same problems. I tried removing all files, ran the .reg problem provided above and still can't see anything to do with Storms of Steel once i hit play. It shows that I have it installed, but nothing else works, when I hit play, it goes back to awakening the bear and ghost division.

any help appreciated.

I have now also tried installing storms of steel in a separate folder, get to where it says play, hit play and nothing happens.

Anybody from Matrixgames on here?

Same issue here,despite following instructions above. I am not being able to install SOS on Windows 8 and the editor crashes even when I am trying to edit an ATB scenario.

Same issues as everyone above. The launch menu mentions "storms of steel", but only the awakening the bear and ghost division missions show up. I followed all directions listed above including running the reg-edit file. I even fully updated Awakening the Bear before installing Ghost Division and Storms of Steel. No luck. Game runs fine, but no Storms of Steel scenarios.

I'm running Windows 8.1 64-bit.

I installed in a SoS separate folder, but had to set up the shortcut myself. If the files have installed, try creating a shortcut to the autorun.exe in the SoS folder and run that.

Gents - fixed the issue - at least for me and I hope for you.

- I think my issue was the fact that I updated Awakening the Bear BEFORE installing Storms of steel. I just bought all three yesterday and followed the install order to no avail. I tried reinstalling, this time w/out updating and the game worked. Keep in mind that when you install is all goes in the AtB folder as VPalaus points out above.

- Here is my exact order:
1. Uninstall all games, in order: SoS, Ghost, AtB.

2. Deleted Matrix file with the folders.

3. Ran the "Reg-edit" file in Attachment #1 provided in the above comment by VPalaus

4. Install AtB

5. Install Ghost Division - the ghost install actually does two things: 1) updates AtB from 1.10 - 1.30 & 2) installs Ghost files
- Emphasis: This is a two separate process in and of itself. There are two windows that pop up: if you read them one install windows, they alert you to which step you're on. #1 Do the AtB update included in Ghost Division: It will show your AtB key in the "Game Key" portion of the install. #2 is the Ghost Division Install.

6. Install Storms of Steel in the Awakening the Bear folder (default locations). NOT A SEPARATE LOCATION. This does two things as well. #1 It installs Storms of Steel. #2 It updates AtB to 1.36 which is the latest version. There is only one window. The update is not split into a separate window like when installing Ghost Division. Just run install like normal and it will work.

I think the issue is, if you've patched AtB to 1.36 and then installed Storms of Steel, the install doesn't work properly and connect the two scenarios together. Just uninstall and follow my directions.
