AA Combat freeze - HELP please

I know this subject has already been discussed in other threads, but nobody seems to be experiencing as serious a problem as I am.
About 90% of my AA combats freeze in the middle because the little window showing the result of the latest die roll is not visible.
None of the patches has changed anything to this.
As a result it is almost impossible to get through a naval air or air combat with more than one round.
I have just spent hours trying to get through one naval combat, constantly restoring the game to start anew, with no success.
Sometimes one round succeeds but I never manage to get to the end.
Also I regularly try to save the game to reduce the amount that has to be redone, but most of the time the game does not allow saving in the middle of AA combat.
It does allow saving between rounds of a naval combat (at the point where it asks whether you want to continue fighting) but if you try to restore that the dialogue window no longer appears and you are stuck.
I think this is a major issue and I am really surprised that there aren't more comments about this.

markb50k gave me some very helpful advice on dealing with hidden button problems in this post:

I have found that using his method has greatly increased the chances of things working.

I don't know why you are having such problems with AA fire; mine has always worked fine. I realize that this is not comforting to you, but may explain why others haven't complained -- they haven't had the problems you have had.

I had problems with Naval AA pre 1.08.03 patch. No crashes since though. As Courtenay says it may be a hidden button issue however if its crashing you out and giving you 3 options to choose I suspect its a pre 1.08.03 issue.

I meant Air-to-air combat, not AA fire...
The problem is definitely that dialogue windows appear hidden behind the frozen air-to-air window.
It is so "frozen" that even when I alt-TAB to other applications it remains on top...

Please see the reply I've made in the other part of the forum about the position of the Main Form. I think that is the solution for disappearing dialogue windows...
