Any chance you can borrow from the gaming tin to buy the game sooner and pay back £1 per week after the game is bought?

There is always is chance. I recently calculated it to be a 0% chance. I demanded a recount but it came up the same. [:(]

My kid today started in his first job: to deliver the sunday advertisingpapers in the mailbox. He earns about € 7,-- a week with this. It seems he will be able to finish his Quest for World Domination sooner than you will... [;)]
Seems like a good idea for you, for generating extra funds... At the rate he is going, he only needs about 20 weeks before going unto his path to World Domination... [:D]

Centuur,

I remember starting my first paper round in the summer of 1964. That was a Sunday round.

My parents would not let me do a daily round until I was a little older. Life was different then.

Best wishes,

Your days of freedom are slowly slipping away. Enjoy them while they last.

The gaming tin now stands at £16.

Shunwick, my dear friend, it might be better for us both if I join you instead of try to resist your empire. So therefore I invite you over to my new HQ to discuss the terms. Maybe I could be your top minion?

Hmm, too smart to fall into a trap like that no matter how fiendish.

The gaming tin stands at £17 with 173 weeks remaining until my quest for world domination begins.

On a more serious note. I was getting ready to purchase Pride of Nations together with its DLCs. This one was always up first and was factored into the cost and time considerations for getting WIF. In order to familiarize myself with PON, I downloaded the demo for it and I have been playing around with it.

Now, PON looks like a really good game but ... OMG complicated. I pretty much knew that when I put it on my list of games to buy and in my younger days that would not have been a problem. I find, however, that as I get older I have lost my taste for it.

Santa brought me Rome: Total War + Alexander. This is not even in the same strategically-complex universe as PON and I find myself enjoying it hugely. Consequently, I have decided against getting PON.

This is not necessarily good news for my purchase of WIF since I have been indulging myself acquiring other Total War tiles - the relatively cheap ones. The gaming tin has been hit and is effectively zero. I just haven't had to pay the credit card bill yet.

Here is the point, though. Am I going to enjoy WIF?

I have been toying with the idea of buying the board game for a very long time but the high cost always put me off. Now that Matrix have WIF I saw it as my chance to finally get it. But I know very little about it apart from the screenshots and the fact that it comes with three womping-great books.

How complicated is it for a beginner to learn?

Steve

You can check out this thread which has a link to an article on learning Wif that you might find useful [:)] I wrote this because I too had never played and wanted to try and help others in the same situation to have some steps I found useful to learn it.

Of course if you do find this helpful, I would expect some consideration in your New World Order [:)]

I too bought PON but just could not get to grips with it - which was a real shame as it looked so promising. By way of yardstick, I could not get into WITP-AE or WITE either. So why do I like WIF? Is it less complicated than those named previously? No, not really - in fact no, not at all.

So will you enjoy it and will it be worth the effort to learn?

Well its impossible to say, but please bear in mind there is a difference between complicated and complicated [8D]

WIF is just [8D]. If you love WWII, if you like mammoth Yamato and Iowa-class battleships bristling with big ones, if you like curvaceous armoured carriers choc full of Avengers, Seafires and Hellcats an' $%^&, if you get a warm fuzzy feeling down below at the sheer splendour of a swarm of Mosquitos, or Black Widows, if the very sight of shiny, powerful black SS Panzer units - amongst a field of grey - gets you excited (in a guilty kind of way) then a) you need to get out more, but b) you need WIF.

WIF is complicated [8D] - and yet its not a dull logistics game. You need to think and plan and re-evaluate and think and re-adjust and execute and re-think and re-work and...

But its great fun doing it because you have control of all these armies and navies and air forces and your problems and advantages are the war time problems of the leader you are playing.

WIF is just BIG and great FUN and just [&o]

It's the interaction of the game which make is so very good. Interaction between the different military branches and the interaction between the decisions to be made by the phasing and the non phasing side. MWIF keeps track of the bookkeeping (which can be pretty time consuming in the board game).

Personally, I can't wait until Steve has killed those bugs and gets Netplay to work right. Yes, I know, I have to be patient, just like the rest of everyone here...

I've only play the WIF board game for a session or two, but I love WITP-AE. That being said, WITP is definitely a logistics game just as much as a wargame. I don't think there is nearly as much logistics in WIF.

I personally enjoy the logistical challenges of WITP and that's why I play it. It is like a Tycoon game, but instead of just getting points, you are able to keep your military in the field and survive a little longer. WIF is much more the other way - there are some logistics, but the focus is on fighting.
