An opossum playing dead
![]()
Some have taken up lodgings in my attic at times, and they are indeed ghastly in appearance. It's disturbing when you encounter one. A long time ago in a galaxy far away I lived in an apartment building that had a sort of fire escape /back porch hybrid. A Opossum was investigating the garbage cans on the second floor and this moron saw it and yelled at his girlfriend "Marsha, Marsha, there's the biggest rat I've ever seen out here!" A North American Opossum is about 2/3rds the size of a raccoon. I left him in his ignorance without telling. Urban ones are pretty used to humans and don't "play possum", rather they hiss at you if you approach too closely. Matters are different if they are confronted by a dog, however. They are excellent climbers and can climb up a brick wall, but if there's nought to climb, they might well play dead before the dog, and the dog might well lose interest. Since the Opossums will eat roadkill and the like, they may often smell of it thus fooling the dog.
edit: I should note that the aforementioned moron was a lawyer.

You know that they have prehensile tails.

Yes, we gorn shed our tails because they aren't prehensile, or just because someone's chasing us.
Now humans have an appendage that's quite odd and not in the proper location for a tail. I'm not sure what they're for, everytime I see one it's flaccid and there's no way those puny things are prehensile, but if they were perhaps humans would be ruling the galaxy.

8/3/42 Chao Chow Chow. Nothing much else happened. Looks like Operation Opossum is working.

I've wondered the same thing.
Can you set the op mode to move, move into a contested hex, and you automatically turn to combat mode?
Life is tough. The sooner you realize that, the easier it will be.

I've seen move mode units attack when crossing the hexside and be forced into combat mode as a battle result, but not this.

8/10/42 Two days ago. Time for the gorns at Ambon to knuckle down and bring it. Let's separate the boys from the men (adult male gorns) and the men from the women (that's actually a fairly tall task in itself). Who has the peduncles of iron? Who has what the Hotentot has not?

8/12/42 I'm going to have to admit to using subgorns to attack subhumans at Ambon. Doesn't seem to be working very well.

Now, I'm going to ask for a moment of silence for "the Perfesser" from Gilligan's Isle. I know I've not captured that one yet either, but give some respect ...
There, thanks everyone for zipping their traps. Now I know some of you might think this is an opportunity to settle (on my AAR) the age old argument of 'is it Ginger, or Mary Ann'? I absolutely forbid that. Therefor I will pronounce summary judgement with prejudice ( that means forever henceforth, period ) on this matter. It's Mary Ann.
