Question about combat reports

Post by JSP13 »

Hi,
Can someone tell me whether the combat reports in TOAW reveal how many phases a given combat expended?
For example, based on the combat report below, can I surmise that this combat used up 20% of my turn (assuming I did not also execute longer combats simultaneously)?
The report seems to essentially say "Unit x1 attacks, x2 attacks, x3 attacks, unit y defends, unit x1 attacks, x2 attacks, x3 attacks, unit y retreats". Because the units is described as defending in only 1 line, one might thing that it defended the 1st phase of combat and retreated the 2nd. Is this correct?

If that's the entire report (there are no more entries on another page - which would be reached via the page up/down buttons) then that only lasted one round of combat. If there is another round, the report says something like "so and so continues the attack".

But note that this still doesn't tell you how many rounds the combat expended, because it doesn't tell you when the combat started. If you had late units in the combat, it could have started any number of rounds after the current round.

More details about the combat resolution phase etc. can be looked up in the toaw.log file (you have to use a flag though or set it up in the opart.ini). For a grphical representation I can recommend 'Onkel Larry's' Combat Loss Viewer, too.
