Western Europe for sure. From WWII through current.

The Middle East if possible with an emphasis on the 1970's.

Southeast Asia 65-75

Korea from the Korean War to current

The Eastern Front in WWII.

I know that's not much but it should keep us busy for awhile. [:D]

Scale might be the problem. However I've order 1\250000 direct from the German mapping agency:

I was hoping to find them on the internet. That may not be possible.

It would only make sense to buy them if the game went in that direction with our maps. I'm not sure that's where we are going at this time.

This is a source I have used in the past and they have a large collection of 1:2000000

Interface to various scales of maps 1:100000 to 1:1000000

If so inclined you can georectify them and overlay them in a GIS with something like ASTERs or SRTM data for elevation. There will be some likely offset, but not enough to mater in game terms. Used that technique with some good results during a early project. Might have one or two more links, but will have to locate them.

This U-Texas collection is the largest internet 'free' collection I know of. Go to the Topo section. Not much Germany, not much below 1:250k. Very large however. I ended up with the sources I did just because of the lack of online actual maps that could be used for games. One of commercial ones above offered already digital, however they were about $20 a pop.

McMaster University has beautiful WWII topo maps from the British War Office at a link I can't post yet.

But you can only do screen shots. No downloads.

Landkartenarchive has a great collection of Euro road maps through time. Same issues.

I just order this from the German Government:

The DVD Top200 not only allows scrolling with the mouse seamlessly from the North Sea to the Alps, from the Rhine to the Oder and precise positioning over place names, but the Federal Republic of Germany can also be flown over interactively.

A digital terrain model clearly shows the relief of the terrain as an elevation profile or even in 3D (with enclosed 3D glasses). The drawing functions and bitmaps offered allow the creation of the user?s own thematic maps.
