RE: Scenario for Testing: Sideshow in the South China Sea

Post by GBOATZ »

Question: I'm nearing the end of the scenario and experienced two problems:
1. All of my aircraft losses are due to refueling problems including the refueling planes themselves running out of fuel on their own and crashing (according to other comments, I'm assuming refueling issues with the game are being addressed) and

2. As I am systematically destroying the base I am attempting to fulfill the second part of the mission and mine CRB with Orion and B52 assets, but after a search of the manual I cannot find any reference on how to drop Mines from Aircraft. I tried setting it as "Auto" but the Orion just flies over the base and the B52 turn around and head back for base. Am I missing something here?

Hi GBOATZ, on the matter of planes running out of fuel can you check if you are running a build earlier than 486? This one seems to have fixed most (all?) such reported problems. Thanks!

Hi, I am running Build 484 and after your reply, I will certainly install the newer version. And please, as an aside, is there a keyboard command for dropping mines that I have overlooked or is there some other procedure I should be using?

Thanx

RE: Mines - I just set up a mining mission, make sure the depth of where you are dropping the mines is within the parameters and they will mine it. After they drop, set up way-points to get them home.

Russian Heel, Acknowledged and thank you.

I enjoyed your scenario and appreciate your assistance. Hopefully when I replay it again with the updated build, tanker support and engaging the mission editor, I will be more successful.

Many thanks to both you and Sunburn for your replies.

(Now if Denver wins the Super Bowl, all will be right in my world!) [:)]

IIRC you can perform a manual mine drop by using the BOL-attack command (Ctrl + F1).

This is not true for mines.

According to page 16 of the manual:

Bearing-Only Attack: The bearing only attack allows players to fire
guided weapons without designating a target but instead designating
a point which their guiding sensor(s) will active to hunt targets. Be
aware that doing this may put neutrals at risk as the sensor may
not know friend from foe. You can also call on this function using
Ctrl+F1 hotkey combo or from the Unit Orders drop down menu.

The mining mission is the only way I have found to release mines, just as the BOL is the only way to release decoys/drones like the MALD

For edification, I upgraded to the latest build to take advantage of the fix for the refueling problems and per instruction, created a Mining Mission and set the altitude of my Orion to 1000 feet. I am happy to say the P-3 dutifully dropped the mines in the prescribed area and I affixed the same parameters to the incoming B52.

Many Thanx to you both for your help

No, problem, I'm glad you have enjoyed the scenario, did you find any erratic behavior in the scripting? Did you use the version with the Player controlled SR-71 or the AI controlled SR-71?

Hi

I manually piloted the Blackbird and as Primarch indicated, I continually overflew the base once I obtained air superiority to ascertain not only the ships to the south, but to also isolate the differnt types of Mobile units and radars that needed to be eliminated. I also used the Orion for AEW to eliminate the air threat. After determining what was a threat and taking them out I then sent in the B52's.

I think the briefing was thorough enough. My only problem was refueling and hopefully with the new build that will be resolved as well.
