[DONE] Lucid Angel (1993)--new scenario for testing

Post by Mgellis »

Here is the pretty-close-to-finished-I-hope version of my newest scenario, Lucid Angel (1993).

Americans have been arrested and tortured in Algeria. Free them! To do this, you will first have to get rid of air defense systems in Annaba. You may also eliminate any targets of opportunity that present themselves.

Please let me know what you think (and if there are any errors that need to be fixed). Thanks!

Nice little scenario. really good fun

<<Spoiler>>>

A couple observations:

-The P-3s at Sigonella don't come into play. The scenario is over before they are ready and the Algerian ships are feeding the fish thanks to the Harpoons on the escorts. If you let the escorts auto engage, there may be a FFG left but a couple AGM-65s would take care of that. I don't think that there are any subs in the game. Recommend that if they remain, at least one of them is set for Mar Ptl and ready or near ready at game start.
-The Harriers with the AAW loadout are Day only, the scenario starts at night and should be over before dawn. Would recommend that you either give the player a 'tweak' in the brief to the effect that its night and he might clue into the loadout issue or perhaps load a couple of them with the AGM-122s - those are nice.
-There seems to be a 'runway access point' on the Algerian airbase which is not grouped with the base.
-The F-18s with a Maverick loadout are ready a couple hours behind the Harriers on the Guam, and they have about an hour long flight time. If the player waits for them, the whole strike would have to go in during daylight - unlikely tactic. I think that its also unlikely that they would be useful as backup, by the time the Americans show their hand, the prisoners would be swinging from a lamp post in time to catch the CNN morning news in the states. Would recommend that you ramp up the ready time for these.
-I really like the AD layout, that SU-57 on the base caught one of my Harriers off guard - bugger - and once I thought I had gripped the AD, another SA-6 popped up, had to kill it (or mostly) with cannons from 2000ft AGL - good stuff. I had a suspicion that there would be something in the area of the Police station, finished him off with cannon as well, but had to go down low to find him before the Helo's arrived.
-Not sure what the port facilities are there for, may want to address that in the brief. Same with the rail station
-The generic building in the town is just there, a name would add some flavour. Perhaps it should be a secondary target or a barracks that the player MUST destroy, without collateral damage of course
-Not sure if you have it, but you may want to put in a big negative point score for destroying the Police station

I really liked the scenario, very cleverly put together.

Thanks

BG

He's probably talking about the AA guns I have near the police station. I imagine people going, "Ah, the SAMs are out of the way...I can send my helicopters and--oh, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!" :)

But, you know, if you have important prisoners, it just seemed reasonable that you'd put various kinds of guns nearby.

Screens like this are WHY I play command. [:D] The illumination radars; me being very miserly with my SAM...

Just played this through and all appeared to be working as intended, nicely done scenario. Suspect I probably cheated as used some naval gunfire, but it was too much fun not too!

Took a quick look at this because of this post:

tm.asp?m=3607429

And it seems that the Harriers are loading Laser mavericks but there are no aircraft in the scenario that actually have a laser designator. I dont know if there was some kind of database change or gamelogic change but it seems strange.

Additionally if you do add in a targeting pod, the weather precludes high altitude lasing. So if not intended maybe change that or add a note in briefing to give a hint to the player to consider it.

Or remove the laser mavericks and start the scenario with the planes loading dumb bombs?
