Advice on Strategic Game Please

Post by dswebb »

Hello,

I've always played tactical level WW2 sims, like Close Combat, or IL-2 for instance.

I'd like to try a strategic level game. Something that simulates the whole European or Pacific theater. Or perhaps
both at once. I've looked around some, but can't make up my mind. Can anybody recommend a good title? I want
something with good AI, and that is fairly detailed/complex, but not something that takes a PhD to play. Anybody
have a favorite out there?

Thanks for the help!

Advanced Tactics Gold has scenarios for that.

War in Europe by decision Games is a Division level game of the European conflict in WW2. But it doesn't have an AI.

Favoritism is alive and well here.

Thanks. I'll check into it.

I think right now my front runner is Commander Europe At War. Any opinions on that one? Somebody like
something else better?

I would recommend the original Strategic Command

Battlefront has the sequels, including a whole world and Pacific scenarios, but this one is far cheaper if you're only just starting into the subgenre.

The Operational Art of War III
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

I downloaded the Strategic Command - Global Conflict Gold demo....played it a tiny bit. Looks pretty good. Only
drawback is I like the look of the overhead board from Commander Europe at War better. But there doesn't appear to
be a demo of Commander that I can find. Is there one? Am I just missing it? Would be great to try them both
before forking out the money.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Hmmmm, after several tries I can't get the download to work. It always says the download was interrupted, and then when I try to open the zip file it says it is corrupt. Bummer.

I found another source at AusGamers and also StrategyInformer. Surely one of them will work for you. Just be careful which download button you click on or you might get something you don't want.

Good luck!
