quasi repeatable CTD & supply pull problem

Post by jcjordan »

This has become more frequent & is quasi repeatable in that it happens at the same base but not necessarily all the time. I'm at the first Russian base up near the Soviet Union base (forget name offhand but starts w/ A so it's first Soviet base you get to when cycling through bases) Problem occurs when you click on Soviet Union base from that base skipping all the Soviet bases in between, I get a CTD error. As I said it's quasi repeatable in that it's the same bases but sometimes is on the first turn once loaded or could be after playing a couple/few turns. Don't remember this being a problem w/ earlier versions of game on same system but I'm thinking along the lines that something w/ Vista & this Beta version 1123v as it's a new game started under that version & had no problems w/ previous beta versions under my savegame that was started a long time ago.

2nd problem just seemed to crop up all of a sudden - I've noticed a few bases have problems pulling supply even after waiting a several days even w/ the level increased. I've had a couple that stayed at low supply level not drawing anything for a couple of weeks even though I set the level for it to draw more as well as stockpile but it didn't until a new month came about then it drew supply but still won't draw any more even increasing the level again. It's almost like these couple of bases seem to only draw once per month at the start of the new month??? I don't see this behavior at other bases around it. These bases are in India & China w/ plenty of supply able to be drawn at least in India case not so much in China but still some available for it to draw there.

What are the supply levels at the base and did you increase the draw amount enough. My experence has been that the base will draw up to 3 times the amount you set. China, well that is more of an availablity issue with all the bases in china. You need more than you have.
Hope this helps.[8D]

The distance that a base will draw supply from varies during a week - 4 days at maximum distance, 2 days at half maximum and 1 day at 1/10th max distance.

ORIGINAL: michaelm

The distance that a base will draw supply from varies during a week - 4 days at maximum distance, 2 days at half maximum and 1 day at 1/10th max distance.
To clarify what Michael said just a bit, here are excerpts from an explanation posted previously:
How far a base can receive supplies is determined by tracing a supply cost path starting value used is 100 just like witp. There are three different ranges used throughout each week 89 which is very short range and happens 4 times a week, 49 which is medium range and happens twice a week and 10 which is long range which happens once per week. These values are the minimum required trace value from sending base to receiving base and the trace value must be equal to or greater than this to receive supplies so you may notice that some bases only get supplies 3 times or in some cases once per week.

...

Short range is trace value of 89 - 100 and is used 4 times per week.
Medium range is trace value 49 - 100 and is used 2 times per week.
Long range is trace value 10 - 100 and is used 1 time per week.
So you start with "100", then from that subtract the terrain movement cost (shown in a chart in the manual), remembering that roads through terrain (meaning crossing the hex side you are counting at the moment) have smaller values. A result of less than "10" means out of supply range. Other results are as noted in the quotation above.

Looking close at that quotation you will note that "Short" by definition includes "Medium" and "Long", and that "Medium" by definition includes "Long". That means that at "Short" range there is a pull all seven days of the week (4 for short, 2 for medium, and 1 for long). And it also means that at "Medium" there is a pull on three days of the week (2 for medium, and 1 for long). And at "Long" there is a pull on only one day of the week.

The solution in China seems to be put the troops in the field instead of in cities so that they & the bases can draw enough but leave them in the city & neither gets enough supply but instead uses it all up & troops become unsupplied & wither.

The bases in India are still a mystery. I've plenty of excess supply at Calcutta that should flow to Tezpur (base in question though there's a couple of others that seem to have problem like Silchar). Tezpur drew supply at start of month to set level (approx. 3000) but didn't in the previous couple of weeks leading up to the EOM but does say something along the lines of max draw 1200 - is that per day/wk/mo or what??? But even after a couple of weeks in the new month it won't draw anymore than what it had from the first of the month even when I reset the supply draw to a higher level ie it's currently set to 1k so 3 times supply has it at 3k supply but then I make it 2k it won't draw any more than it's current level of 3k when it should start drawing to 6k. Other bases around the area don't exhibit this behavior but do draw something after a few days if I reset the supply draw (similar to when you add replacements to a unit there's a few days blackout until it is eligible to draw again)
