I lose about 600 men and 12 AV. That takes me down to 648. I have over 60,000 supplies on the island so he isnt going to move me off without an act of God. And at the rate he is losing ships I am guessing his interest will wane quickly.

Round and Round.

There is a TF that is limping away from Diego Garcia at 2 hexes per day. It is just too tempting. Likely it is the Mutsu. All I have are a light cruiser and a handful of destroyers but the Mutsu got in a big surface combat 3 nights ago and then bombarded Diego Garcia. I am hoping the guns are mostly empty. It could also be a trap but what the hey!!

NJP is in for a surprise in India. The cavalry has arrived. One Australian division and 2 regiments plus a whole lot of artillery are on the ground and strat moving to Goa. Then onward towards Madras. It might mean a full on confrontation in the city.

Within 3 weeks or so I can form the final Aussie division and will get about 300-400 more AV of troops in India.

Hopefully I can make his entire trip to the Indian continent a bust!!

February 24, 1942

NJP attacks my stack at Cunderdin and loses nearly 2000 troops to 300. I counter shock attack and kill another 850.

He is starting to lose a good amount of ground troops he probably cannot afford to lose.

It will be interesting to see if he pushes forward or retreats.

I have units strat moving into Madras on the sly and if he doesnt check he might be in for a big surprise. A 500 stack will become a 1500 stack within 4 days. I am going to have to stop bombarding him however. Maybe he will think I am low or out of Ammo.

I don't understand the importance of Diego Garcia other than losing a set of eyes there. I lost it early and was taken by surprise but the effect has been minimal. Convoys have been going back to Cape Town without interruption including the crippled Prince of Wales and other capital ships. I have no intention of retaking it until I find out why it is of importance. I would be very concerned about Madras but only in so far as it effects units which could be cut off. You are experiencing the same aggressive expansion I have and still am. It's really hard to hit back. Forgive me for either not remembering or commenting earlier, have you transferred any B17s to India or fighters? I think Paul had his eyes on Ceylon in our little war but I am sure I discouraged him, decimating his air groups over Colombo. I have thought about next time however. I will keep two Dutch mining subs at the base to the west of Ceylon in the reef chain and mine Diego at the hint of approaching IJN TFs. Maybe try and get some MBTs in there as well. Just bleed him now. It's ok for a slow blood letting, just keep pricking him. Starting to ramble, late, and I'm having my hat handed to me.

It can be used to interdict shipping from CT. It is also a good launching point for amphibious assaults all along the west side of Java and Malaya. I wanted to keep it so immediately moved the 18th Div onto it and have been piling on ever since. NJP just mined it which will be interesting. I do have an AMc there so hopefully I can eliminate that... I am sure it will be an ongoing thing.

I gave up Ceylon to NJP knowing that there was no way I could keep it and all the major cities in India at the same time. I took the 100K of fuel and supplies with me and left him with nothing but a nice shipyard and airfield. I can mass stuff soon enough to take it back.

Keep your chin up. You get more and more stuff and he does not. Try to keep as much stuff as you have intact and do not hesitate to give up land for time. The base points are irrelevant in game as they can change hands. Lost army,plane and ship points are forever.

I was feeling pretty down about the game a few weeks ago in game and Australia is still really dicey depending upon what he chooses to do. If I make the wrong move I could lose 1000AV.

But I just got reinforcements in Melbourne to form the Americal Division and there are going to be 400 AV of reinforcements in India in a few days.

I warned NJP that time was running out. I am going to let you guys in on why...

Battle for SW India

To set the stage...

NJP had moved troops near Madras and placed the 250 AV unit in the city to hold me down a few weeks to a month ago. It appeared he would make a move on Calcutta but as he was landing and attempting to secure the road access the AV went from 550 to 1100. I do not believe he has a chance there.

He was building up near Madras for what I believed to be an attack. However, the situation has changed in the last few days. The garrison at madras was previously about 550AV. Over the course of a few days the Aussies have shown up and the garrison has jumped to 1340 AV. The 2 green units strat moving in the picture are artillery units following up the rear. The final Australian regiment is prepping for strat move into the area. I do not believe he has any reason to know about the change in AV.

He is using the rail lines between Calcutta and Madras and next turn a 100 AV unit will move out of the city and cut the line. If I stop the northmost artillery unit on the railroad tracks I believe it will kill the railroad access to Bellary and Mysore which both have Allied units on the way to re-take the bases.

Did I mention that the allies get another 400 AV in reinforcements in India in 2 days? Including 100 AV at Madras?

If I manage to blow him out of Madras with a deliberate attack then he is bottled up in southwest India.

This might take his attention away from Diego Garcia. I hope so because his last bombardment killed almost 1000 troops. I have a coastal battery OTW but it will take probably 2 weeks to arrive and there is no guarantee that it will not get blown out of the water. It will be arriving with a surprise however...

After the battle a few days ago there has not been much action. It appears as if NJP might be attempting to solidify his hold on the area by going for the dot base east of Geraldton and heading south to take out Esperance.

Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch...

The Americal infantry division along with a ton of Artillery and an armor battalion with some engineers thrown in for kicks and giggles are loading up for departure to either Esperance or Albany if Esperance has already fallen. The TF will be escorted by a 2 CV carrier fleet and surface fleet escort.

Depending on the situation I may break off the CV's and swing them around Perth for a sneak attack. I might be able to get enough fighter CAP up to stop any serious attempt on the amphibous transports.

Either way it throws another wrench into his plans. And if I can get Kalgoorlie reopened.... Pandora's box baby!!!

March 2, 1942

I attack the troops in Madras and find out that he has bulked up to over 600 AV in the city. I still get a good outcome killing 1700 troops to 1200. However, I am not going to be able to move him out of there easily. Neither is he going to be able to move me.

I have other troops on the way, it will be interesting to see how he reacts.

In the meantime, somehow my AF Carrier TF got west of the KB which was moving east underneath Australia. For some reason it seems like NJP was not set up for a carrier battle as he hit with very little aircraft.

This puts min in a really interesting position. I thought about it for a while and decided to break off my cruisers in 2 CA groups with DD escorts and fan them out in the direction of the KB. Meanwhile my Carrier TF will move directly south at full speed to attempt to survive. I flew all of the DB's off to the continent as if I get into a dogfight with the KB the are going to be dead anyway.

Hopefully this causes him to go west to protect the transports that I know are on the way to either Port Augusta or Melbourne. This couldnt have happened at a better time as I only have to turn around and drop off the troops loaded for Esperance. Once he lands he will face over 700 AV of troops if I can get them in place in time.

There are other surprises on the horizon ;]

Lets hope for a damaged CV or two!!

Ok, pouting is over. I lose another bunch of ships this turn. Nothing to do about it really.

If there is an invasion incoming the KB is going to have to re-arm before it commences. I hope he backs off long enough for me to throw a ridiculous amount of mines in the channel in front of Port Augusta.

I am done... I have decided to move the troops in perth by rail to cunderdin and attack the stack he has there. If that is sucessful I am going to march to Kalgoorlie and bust the rail line open. If it works, he might take perth but I am going to rail in enough stuff to turn around and smash back into perth and then Geraldton.

I may lose a bunch of troops trying this but otherwise I am going to lose perth and 1000 AV. Since the KB is in the area he can basically keep the ocean locked down indefinitely. I am lucky that I still have my carriers. That is the chances I am taking however.

We are dancing around in india. I have another 400 AV on the way to Madras which already has 1100 AV. If I can manage to get them in there then it is impenetrable and he will have to target bombay or Karachi. I am not sure how long he is going to dance around but he has shown an amazing resiliance up to this point.

Time to re-assess, and start planning new strategies to make progress.
