Inconsistent unit arrangement in forms

Post by joshuamnave »

Last patch Steve fixed the select unit form so that CVP's uniformly line up under the CV they were loaded on, and that was a nice improvement. There are some other forms with inconsistent unit arrangements that can lead to some confusion. I realize this will be a low priority, as it should be, but would it be terribly hard to make the forms more consistent?

In this screen shot, the ships in the left box always show their cargo above the carrying transport (opposite of the CV/CVP's) and in the right box, it's somewhat scattershot.

It's a peccadillo, but it would make the game more seamless.

And in this form, the units are shown below their transports. When loading multiple transports at a time, it just makes it harder to quickly tell which transports are already loaded, or which transports/amphibs are loaded with which units when the forms are arranged inconsistently.

I entirely agree with you that the way the TRS and the units loaded are displayed is not ideal. However, given that its easy just to run the mouse over the unit to see what its loaded with, and given the real, game-breaking issues, I would rather Steve ignore this and get on with the other stuff (Australia aligning with Germany (I mean I know they have no time for us poms but....), China and some Overseas Supply, Production (convoys), trade agreements, port strike etc).

One for the "nice to have" pile [;)]

Oh, I agree... I just want to make sure it gets put on a list, somewhere. And Steve talks about using smaller bugs or working on AI as a way of taking short breaks. My guess is that this is a 20 minute fix. If I'm wrong, then by all means shove it way down to the bottom of the list and let it stay there.

And speaking of strange alliances...

This one is on a completely clean load. No residual memory problems.

I'm fairly convinced the problem is related to multiple states of war, possible a bug from the fix in the last patch? Each time it has happened to me has been when one Axis power declared war on one Allied power that one or more Axis powers were already at war with, but not on all powers they were at war with. In the current instance, Italy DOW'd France (but not the UK) while Germany only DOW'd Netherlands and Denmark.

Unfortunately, the game is now pretty much unplayable for me until this is fixed.

Yes, this is certainly a mess. I went back to one of my old saved games, repeated your sequence and created the same problem. It seems directly related to multiple DOW's as I:

Only had Italy declare and France --> no problem

then exited/reloaded the game and only had Germany declare on Belgium & Denmark --> no problem

So if you have only one major declaring during an impulse it seems to work. However, this should be highlighted for an early fix.

I've fixed this for version 1.1.3.0 - which should be available on Monday (2/10/2014).
