Germany DOW on Switzerland

Post by Skarfdawg »

I have read almost all the AAR's.
No of them have Germany attacking Switzerland.
I used it to open up the bottom of the Maginot Line and hasten the conquest of France.
Any thoughts?

Aside: would you align it with CW or France?

Thanks.

Align to CW. Switzerland is likely to last longer than France, so better to keep them with the Brits.

The only possible advantage I can think of to attacking Switzerland is an extra hex side to attack Lyons, if you're going for an incomplete conquest. But if you can take out the Swiss in the mountains, then you already have more than enough firepower to take Lyons anyway.

And I would align them to Russia, because irony! (and yes, I'm aware that Russia isn't a valid choice).

It is if the others decline (capital range determines order of choice if playing w/o PoliF/DOD)

I thought you could only align a minor that was attacked if you were an active major power. I suppose the Soviets might be fighting the Japanese, but they're not likely to be active. Otherwise, you might get weirdness like it being best for the U.S. to align the Swiss, that way, as long as they hold their factories, and France remains open, the U.S. can ship resources to those factories, scrape up an extra BP or so. (And the U.S. doesn't have anything better to do with its land actions at that point in the game. And it would give them something to do. )

Edit: Oh yes, isn't a valid choice. I should really read these things fully before responding to them, derp.

Yes alignment only to active major powers, with exc. of CW-Poland start of the game.

In most of my games it is quite common for SU to attempt liberation of their Manuchu brothers in arms.. guess I made presumtions. There is basically not downside if it works, you just have to be carefull not to stall the JP pool though.

I had brought this up as an option recently, but frankly going the Holland/Belgium route was pretty painless when I played it out.
