WIF Locking Up and Other things
I bought the game last week and, so far, the only two scenario's I can get to work are the tutorials. It tells me the two half map scenario's are note even available. The Global War scenario locks up (sort of) after you finish placing pieces and try to proceed. I tried to the task manager and I get informed that the program is running but waiting for a response from me. The computer is still running, I can access everything else but, all of the WIF screens are frozen. I waited an hour to see if it was doing something and, apparently, it isn't. Any thoughts?
If I am to be damned then let it be for who I am and not what I think you want me to be.

RE: WIF Locking Up and Other things
A few thoughts:
1) have you installed the most recent patch?
2) the two single max scenarios are not yet available. They'll be finished after the major bugs are ironed out.
3) When you say it froze up after placing pieces and trying to proceed, can you give us more information? Had you placed pieces for every country (Germany should be the last one). If not, which country were you stuck on? If it was after the US or Japan, you may have an illegal setup related to placing convoys to meet their pregame trade agreement. If it was after Germany, did you get to the initiative screen, or did it lock up immediately after ending the setup phase? If Germany was the last country you set up, please upload a save file. The file you most likely want will be under autosaves/general and it's the set up Germany file. You'll need to zip it in order to post it here.

RE: WIF Locking Up and Other things
1) Yes I have the most recent patch's installed. Did that as soon as I finished installing. I Double checked with the updater and manually looked and yes the patch is current.
2) Thanks, didn't know that. I suspected as much but couldn't find anywhere that said that was the case.
3) No, Germany is the last set up, tried it several times. The initiative screen would come up, weather, then I got a window that said Germany had declared war on Poland. I click OK. Then it says I'm on the Sept/Oct 1939 Axis #1 DOW: US Entry. It does nothing. Just completely frozen.
No it isn't the convoy trade routes, it warns you of that during set up and those got corrected long before this. I also tried loading the fast start file that came with the game. It lets you place Poland and then to align Siam with Japan, then it freezes again, just like when it runs with my set up.
Is that what you need? Or do you want the actual game file that I have saved?

Post the zipped save game file. *I* probably won't be able to do anything with it, but that's what Steve will need if it's an actual bug and not something you're inadvertently doing wrong.

One other suggestion... In my AAR there are saved game files from every turn, multiple save game files for most turns. Try downloading one of those and running it and see if you have the same problem. Might help to isolate the issue.

I zipped the file and tried to send it to the help desk, it keeps telling me the file is too big. Grrr, I'll keep trying.

post it to this thread. There's an upload file button on the bottom of the reply form (use the "post reply", not the "fast reply"). That was any of the beta testers (I'm not one) or Steve can grab it and look at it.

Thanks for the help Zartacla, it should upload with this post. I would have never found that button had you not told me about the post/fast post thing.

Worked fine for me, but I think I may know your problem. It's waiting for you to pick a US Entry chit. Next to the top left box, there is a button that says "Draw 1". It wants you to push that button to "draw" a chit from the pool. Try that, and see if that clears it up.

RE: WIF Locking Up and Other things
On a strategy note... you might want to consider placing your Italian fleet in La Spezia instead of the heel of the boot. La Spezia is on the junction of two sea zones, which is hugely important. Taranto only borders one - and it's one that La Spezia also borders. Also... there is nothing to stop the Italians from declaring war on France on the second impulse running right through southern France. When the French call up the reserves on the first impulse, they can only place them in a city so the French Alps will be undefended.
Good luck and enjoy!

RE: WIF Locking Up and Other things
Top Left Box? I don't think that's it because the entire thing is freezing up. Everything is frozen. I spent a long time looking for something like that before I sent in a ticket. Let me ask you this, when you do that, does the map still scroll while it is waiting for the chit to be drawn? Course I'm going to look and try that but, this isn't the only phase it's doing this. When I run the fast set up saved game, that is included, it starts at the point where you set up Poland, and I get to the align minor power phase, in this case for Siam. I click OK on that and then nothing. It freezes up just like it does in the US Entry phase on the other.

Then I can't help... I loaded your save game file on my machine and had no problem running it. I'm out of ideas.

RE: WIF Locking Up and Other things
OK, I found the box and now I know what the problem is. I closed every other window and moved them so I could see the entire screen. When these windows are popping up, asking you for an action, they are not coming up over any other screens, of course you can't action any of these buttons if you can't get to those windows. Thanks, this is something I can work around till I figure out why those windows are not popping up.

RE: WIF Locking Up and Other things
What might cause this problem, is the position of the Main form. It should be at the top of the screen.
If it isn't at the top of the screen, sometimes forms are put behind the detailed map (or below the main form) and that means you can't do anything at that point. If I restore your game, I haven't got that problem, since I have to restore my screen layout before I can check this and than everything seems allright.
If you use one screen, try to make your screen layout look like mine (with regarding the position of the Main Form) and see if things are working correctly if you have this on the screen.
If you have multiple screens, the main form has to be in this same position on the second monitor, if the detailed map isn't on that monitor...
This has been the cause of problems like the one you are reporting now...

RE: WIF Locking Up and Other things
Centuur I am starting to think that you are exactly right. The single biggest difference from when I have tried to play this game and when I played the tutorials is that I had the main form at the top for the tutorials. I'm going to put it back up there and see if that works.
