Expansion issues

Civil War 2 is the definitive grand strategy game of the period. It is a turn based regional game with an emphasis on playability and historical accuracy. It is built on the renowned AGE game engine, with a modern and intuitive interface that makes it easy to learn yet hard to master.
This historical operational strategy game with a simultaneous turn-based engine (WEGO system) that places players at the head of the USA or CSA during the American Civil War (1861-1865).

Expansion issues

Post by Jim D Burns »

Just installed the expansion and patch and fired up the 1863 2 theater campaign and immediately found two issues. First Kentucky is locked and units are stuck there (does not change if you run a turn it stays locked) second every single stack in the same region displays the same CV, which may be a total of all CV’s though I can’t tell for sure.

Not sure if this is a bug or a change but if it is intentional it is a horrible design decision. PLEASE make it optional so players who want to see the relative value of individual stacks don’t have to click on every dam stack individually to see their CVs. This adds tons of unneeded clicking to the game.

On the number two:

The main reason it's been done is to see at glance enemy force in the area. This way, instead of seeing the power of the top ranking stack, you see it all. I admit it is little awkward when you look at your own forces, and a compromise has been proposed if the players feel this is too awkward:
- to see your own units the same way as before and to see only enemy units this way (you only see top enemy stack in the region anyway)

+1 on not liking the change. To me it hides information and makes it tedious to cycle through units in a region, where before I could see the information.

I did like it, so I must be the culprit here. So shoot at me at will.

It solved the big problem of lone generals hiding enemy stacks strength[:)]

I think its helpful in some ways, and not so much in others. Would it be possible to have some sort of shift function to show your stacks' individual powers?

Everyone has UI preferences. The best compromise it let there be an option for one or the other.

This is still counter-intuitive as the information is hidden unless you press a key. Better to go back the way it was and make the total value the one you need to press a key for as you need that info far less often.

Does anybody likes that ENEMY units are displayed in the total value. It is a suggestion that was discussed by the developers.

Yes. I think it would be better have an option to switch viewing modes however, with the old way being default.

Not that players tend to be spoiled or anything!

Gamers are a lot like soldiers. If they aren’t complaining, they aren’t happy.

I prefer this to one general hiding the values of all the stacks in a region.[:D]

Having to select my stacks to see their value is not much different from having to select the enemy general to see what is under him.

It is pretty much even as to which is the best.

If it is changed back, then everyone will start complaining about leaders hiding stack values again.[8|]

Pros and cons for each display...I just prefer the old way.

I always try to achieve a compromise so everyone is satisfied.
Keeping the old system with the total power of all stacks in the tooltip for own forces, and the enemy total power displayed on the top stack (they are always grouped on top of each other anyway) would be the best of the both worlds IMO.

Works for me.

I guess I'm not being clear. I like it, but there should be a way for the player to toggle the display on/off for his side.

I don't know if the switch to toggle on and off on the fly is as easy to make as the permanent

total strength for the enemy/stack strength for me

solution.

I figured as much. Something to keep in mind down the road perhaps.

Came across another issue. Playing as Union vs. AI in the April 1861 campaign and the CSA chose to intervene in Kentucky in Oct 61. From what I can tell the whole state unlocked except the region around Madisonville. I played several turns hoping it would unlock but no luck.

Here's the save, I had to rename it to a jpg to get the forum to allow it to attach. Rename the .jpg extension to .rar and it should be able to be opened. If not let me know where to send it if you need it.
