How does the AI work? Any suggested reading?

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

How does the AI work? Any suggested reading?

Post by governato »

This is a post for the Command Ops developers, but also for us players.
The developer of TOAW has posted on the forum asking for resources on how to better develop the AI (both in terms of algorithms and actual strategic doctrine). TOAW is very different from Command Ops, although the scale sometimes overlaps. It's a great game, but it would surely benefit from a better AI..and Command Ops has one of the best.

Any suggestions/hints/suggested readings without revealing any house secrets? [:)] I am very curious myself and tempted to dabble into the AI 'doctrine' in Command Ops scenarios....

Here is Ralph's post on the TOAW forum:

There is an hour long lecture from Dave O'Connor, (Arjuna) which was made available years ago... (At least 5-6, possibly longer ~ I don't have the information to hand).

There is a zipped file here:
