(b480&486)Crash on Game Start

Post by Langlais »

Bought this game a few days ago. I was able to get the game to run with the initial v1.1 download, but when I patched to v1.2 the game stopped with a windows error message every time I attempted to start. Uninstalled game, reinstalled and patched with Build 486, had the same problem.

Error message for both versions is as follows;
Problem Event Name: CLR20r3
Problem Signature 01: Command.exe
Problem Signature 02: 1.0.0.0
Problem Signature 03: 52aec201
Problem Signature 04: NAudio
Problem Signature 05: 1.6.0.0
Problem Signature 06: 508acf8b
Problem Signature 07: 1be
Problem Signature 08: f
Problem Signature 09: System.NullReferenceException
OS Version: 6.3.9600.2.0.0.256.49
Locale ID: 3081
Additional Information 1: 5861
Additional Information 2: 5861822e1919d7c014bbb064c64908b2
Additional Information 3: 01d7
Additional Information 4: 01d7340064827245f2249cd1f1a7c264

OS is fully up to date Windows 8.1 x64.
Have installed Dx9.0c Prereqs, but was unable (and shouldn't really need to) install net 4.0 - 4.5 as Win 8.1 has them preinstalled; and I can't find a way to force reinstall them.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get this working?

The quick and easy answer at this point is to install and patch the game up to B486, and hold position 'till the next update for 489- which should be released shortly. There's many of us in the same boat, shipmate.

I think I'm sailing a colander.[:D]
Just updated to build 490. Same error, except program signature03 is now 52f7f36f.

Anyone think changing my OS to XP or 7 and starting again would help? Awful lot of work but worth it if it gets this going.

Hi Tim. Sorry this isn't running. Here are a few things we suggest.

1)Updates are not installed. When you launch Command the first you time you should hit the update button in the matrix launcher and install up to 1.02.

2) Prerequisites need to be installed. If you don't think the installer is doing the trick go into your prerequisites folder [C:\Matrix Games\Command Modern Air Naval Operations\PreRequisites] and run dotNetFx45_Full_setup.exe and then go into the directx_mar2009_redist folder and run DXSETUP.exe.

3) Folks have also had success by deleting their Command.ini file in C:\Matrix Games\Command Modern Air Naval Operations. This file will be rewritten when you start again.

I'm still dealing with this as well. Mike Ive done and re-done all that you've suggested. I deleted my config. I checked the prereqs, attempted to update both. DirectX updated again, .Net says it's up to date. I don't have any flightsims, so thats a non-issue... 486 still runs like a champ, with the newest builds of DB3K and CWDB. The new .EXE is a total non-starter, requiring a hard shutdown to close the program running in the background. This is becoming quite frustrating. What was done in the newest .EXE, that was so much different than B486?

Do you get an error screen or does it just hang? If you have an error can you please post it (screenshot or copy and paste)?

When it does this btw just go to your task manager and shut down the command.exe process. No need to reboot.

Thanks

Mike

1. It just hangs.
2. No error to post. Cursor briefly displays as hourglass then stops.
3. I always try to close w/ Task Manager ( I do Tier one tech support for ATT UVerse, BTW ) and the system will not close the Command. EXE from there. the system will not shutdown/restart windows normally. The only way to kill the process is to do a hard shutdown, using the power switch.

I'm running WIN 8.1, 64bit. The system is about 3 months old, purchased to run this one game, actually. It has run Command reliably for almost the last three months. Never had a problem with an update till B487/8/9.

Can you verify that you're installing the patches into the correct directory? When you do it are you getting asked to overwrite files?

Default directory is C:\Matrix Games\Command Modern Air Naval Operations

Sorry for the nature of some of the questions but as a tech support person I think you know why I'm doing it.

Thanks!

Not sure if it helps...I had this issue for a while and it turned out I had installed a 4XX update to the wrong directory. I don't remember which one it was.

Well, after some crazy leap of logic I solved my issue.
Windows 8.1N doesn't include Windows Media Player. Command dislikes the lack of Windows Media Player.

Installed Windows Media Player and now the game starts fine. Also had to reinstalled DX after WMP top get it to function properly.

To those that tried to help, Thanks.
