[DONE]: Ambalat Island Dispute

Post by poaw »

This is my first scenario after playing around with the editor and coming up for the right geopolitical scenario as it's basis.

I really wanted to try out the "Future Next Tuesday" capabilities of the USN as they foresee them being utilized. I decided on a mid-sized and relatively simple scenario in which you're tasked with dealing with a variety of relatively minimal threats that can create large problems when combined together.

Any feedback at all is appreciated.

Updated to hopefully fix the path-finding issue (2-17-14)
Updated with clarified briefing text, fixed subs engaging in recreational snorkeling on company time, and performed minor polishing (2-20-14)
Finalized balance, put briefing and introductory text in the established format, and applied final polishing to scenario. I consider this as done as this I can make it at this point. Please Enjoy. (2-21-14)

I like the premise, but (Spoilers):

I have to manually attack the Indonesians to get them to turn hostile. Also, there's pathfinding issues with the ships.

I intended for the Indonesian Navy to initially be unfriendly instead of hostile.

Can you elaborate on the specific path-finding issue you're referring to?

Attempted to fix the path-finding issue and made minor additions/balance changes.

Lots going for the scenario, must admit I liked the premise, the area and the forces available.

In some ways its relatively easy, I scored 775 points and a triumph although I was lazy and lost seven helicopters.
I wasn't all that sure what to do about the sides as I inevitably had to do some scouting, then blow up those who opened fire.
The orders might have to specify if that's not what you wanted?
Nice to see LCS leading the charge!

Things that did strike me:-

I wasn't totally clear on my orders sorry, was I meant to head towards a specific zone then mineclear for example? That probably needs to be very specific.

It would be nice though admittedly difficult to name the combatants and neutrals, this is possibly just a preference of mine!

The neutral air was nice, but kept coming across in close formations, might be simplest to thin those out slightly?

The various Goblin contacts tended to cruise around at periscope depth, again that might be intentional.

I did wonder if they'd be harder to pick up with some weather.

Very interesting scenario overall.

Have to add Command does a superb job of the likes of small scale rocket attack and gunfire etc. I managed to sink a Van Spejik with Hellfire and Rocket strikes, which was nice.

The part about the forces being unfriendly initially is meant the represent a gradual escalation in the forces you're dealing with as the situation develops. I wanted the player to have more control on the pace at which things develop to see if I could manage the basics of it from the design side without things feeling canned (even though they are).

I'll work on making the briefing clearer and fix the subs surfing around.

Scenario finished, all the niggling hairs removed from the scenario. I hope everyone enjoys it.
