March 16, 1942

Ise succumb to her wounds according to the ship sunk list. That puts us both at 2 BB's and a 1 CVL/CVE each for big ships.

I am moving as fast as I can from Cunderdin to Kalgoorlie but I fear it will end badly. I have 900+ AV though. He could be air lifting troops. If he moves troops by sea to try to cut me off he will find a surprise waiting for him.

If I can manage to capture Kalgoorlie I lose SW Australia but keep my army. If I cannot capture Kalgoorlie I may lose both.

I doubt that Ise sank. I would look at the air losses for the day to see if there are any F1M2 Petes (or other FP types) destroyed on ground that day. If not, better than even money that she didn't sink.

Yeah. The R-class BBs are not very good. I rate them even lower than the 15" pre-war USN BBs, maybe similar to the 14" classes. The Japanese old BBs are much better, even if they are the same speed. They really knew how to design superb ships.

I watched the replay again and didnt cry this time... much...

Of the 15 hits the ISE took,

5 were oberliken guns
2 were 4" shells that did not penetrate
2 were 6" shells that did not penetrate
2 were main armament superstructure hits
2 were main armament tower hits that both caused fires on the bridge
1 was a main armament belt penetration
1 was a main armament belt penetration with a critical hit.

1 pete was lost to OPS the next day.

I might have actually gotten him. If so there are about 8 to go...

Loko....The "R"s have always done a hell of lot better job for me than the likes of Colorado, Idaho, Mew Mex. etc...I attribute this to higher experience levels.

She was auto split off from the task force with a single destroyer escort as you see from the naval combat reports.

It is still possible that she lives and it is FOW. If she does though I wont see her for a while...

March 17, 1942

I am so frustrated with Diego Garcia I could scream... NJP is handing me my ass there and there seems that there is nothing I can do about it. My search planes cant find him, my dive bombers and torpedo bombers do not react to his TF's which I usually cannot see. He seems to be able to jump inside and outside a 9 hex search grid at will.

He can conduct surface attacks, bombardments, pretty much anything he wants and I cant seem to stop it.

He destroys my DD escorts and ships, his subs tear my ships apart. My subs sitting in harbor rarely even shoot at his ships much less hit anything.

Oh, and the cherry on top is that I managed to get a coastal defense unit on site to help against bombardment and it took TWO friggin shots at the last bombardment fleet. Why did I even bother?? He sank the other CD I just tried to land. GAAH!!

I cannot create PT boats at Diego for some reason even though it is a lvl 3 port with 74,000 tons of supplies and ships with supply in harbor and I create a transport TF and it will not allow me to create any PT boats. I click on bases in Australia and there I can create them NP. Do I need to create them somewhere else and then use them?? I dont seem to be able to disband the ones at Manila to transport or use them elsewhere.

In this turn NJP torpedoes a heavy cruiser of mine while in port. It was not hanging about, it just barely got into port. He also torped an AO just arriving in theatre and an AK sitting at port. His subs dont seem to miss much.

I think your problem may be one of detection. If you've got your stuff set up as best as you can manage, then I think perhaps you should give up on holding the seas at the base itself and come back later. The base is still under your control, right? He's burning tons of fuel to get there and back. It might be too late, but maybe if you let him expend himself against Diego and hit him in the middle of the IO... I don't know. Spitballing.

He is NEVER gonna take Diego... I have over 600AV including the 18th Div with 74,000K of supply He can bombard all day for weeks and still probably wouldnt be able to take the base.

I know he has assets at the island NE that are lighting me up 100% as I bombarded the place and managed to kill some troops. Troops are even training at Diego to assault the island.

I guess that I should be happy he is concentrating on something he really cannot change but it still is FRUSTRATING to not be able to hit back...

Ok, to happier things...

It appears that my 900+ AV stack is going to hit Kalgoorlie within a few days. Hopefully he hasnt managed some sneaky trick like airlifting 2 divisions in. If that is the case then he wins a strategic victory by taking Perth but I do not have a disaster on my hands by losing an Army. I will see within a few days time on that one.

In India, he has 3 divisions in a really tricky situation. NJP was attempting to take Madras and I managed to move most of the 6th & 7th(?) Aussie divisions into the city. We have been dancing back and forth between Madras and Calcutta and his Divisions are just west of Madras without strat move capability and with unknown supply. He mentioned for the first time he was worried about his troops in India about 2 days ago in game time but that might be psyops. He still has 1200AV of his best troops including the Imperal Guards division hanging in the wind. Probably would take 8-10 days to get most of them to Vizig-whatever to naval lift them out. I do not believe that is his plan though, I think they will aid in the defense of Burma likely for a long time.

I have about 700 AV in Calcutta but maybe I should enhance that a bit...

2 carriers are in re-fit for approximately 2 weeks which will take us into April when 3 more should get re-fitted. My strategy is still to have carriers operating in 3 theatres of operation and when the next carrier shows up it will go to Pearl to join the other one for my Pacific carrier fleet.

What I realize is that NJP has allowed me to let him take the initiative in the game. I am focused on defending rather than attacking and I need to get things going. Over the next 2 days I will need to formulate an overall strategy for the next 6 months of the war. The general idea is to push from all sides to find the weak spots.

Australia - Buildup Kalgoorlie and push west to force NJP to maintain a sizeable garrison in SW perth or lose the area. I need AA units in this region. I also need to build up Alice Springs and Cloncurry - Especially Cloncurry as I can host large bombers out of the area and take down Daly Waters.

New Guinea - I need to start scoping out Horn Island and the other islands south of New Guinea for possible exploitation. Coast watchers are reporting a boat in Tulagi so he likely has troops that far south. He never put pressure anywhere further south east than that. I have not built up anything in the area either. Noumea and Suva are as they were at the start of the game. I do not see this area as being a big part of contention.

India - Attempt to kill as many wayward Japanese troops as possible. Reinforce Calcutta which will be his obvious last destination on the continent. Start prepping troops for the invasion of Ceylon. I am thinking about a 2 direction approach with ships from Madras and the other side. However, I would need to gain superiority in this area or divert his large naval assets away from here.

Kuriles - Move a division to the big island and then pile on whatever else I can get. Mines and other stuff might be a priority. I might build from the base up, I have to think about this. It has to be able to be well supported unlike Diego. I need to develop a sub base here to attack his HI convoys.

I am going to go over the whole map today and start making overall plans. Things go much better when I have objectives and are on the attack rather than just reacting to his actions. KB has disappeared for too many days, I have no idea where it is ATM.

NJP had a unit still standing on the rail line and this turn it was finally destroyed. 1 Japanese regiment on the way to a re-build in Japan courtesy of the Australian Army. I wait anxiously to see what the supply situation is tomorrow. It has been +19 supply up to this point.
