So right off the Germans charge my partisans in stone buildings. Looks like classic AI mindless rush to take an objective. Though to be fair my guess is the FOW didn't let the Germans see me. Clobbered them with point blank small arms fire. feeling good.
However i am intimidated by their having a armored car (I have some molotov cocktails and one anti tank rifle) and a tank (GULP). But I start to relax as I see they are having a hard time with my stone buildings.
Next turn I decide to melee some remaining adjacent Germans with my heroic paristan and some supporting partisan squads. Goes ok and when reinforcements arrive in the melee square with my partisan leader I finish them off. Feeling good! I need to kill 4 German squads and I'm already there, plus their Lt Koch.
Now some more German infantry moves up across the square. These aren't so bold and don't rush me. Guess they can see me. But since they are moving (albiet into cover) I decide I'd better take a shot. Handily I get to use the very nice German MG just captured (much better than my equipment). I panic them
Now I'm starting to bragg (in my head). I've wiped out more Germans than needed, I'm holding my objectives, and looking good. However there is one fly in the ointment. When I paniced the Germans entering the building they spawned a hero (I guess they weren't all cowards). Now the armored car fire takes effect and shakes a few of my partisans (they aren't used to such direct combat!). On the next turn before I can rally the German hero and a German squad rush me and mop me up. Even worse they take one of my objectives. Now I could actually lose.
Even more terrifyingly (spoiler alert ) more German armor appears including an SPG. Man, I only have partisans! Help. But scenario time is running out. I need to retake that objective. So I melee the hero and buddy and kill them.. but they kill me too! Now the German armor closes. I am locked down and can't retake the objective... I lose!
It was good fun feeling so cocky and then losing. The game generated a nice narrative flow. A good "story" to remember of heroic partisans and devestate the Germans but can't hold up in the end to their professional assault.
Now on to the campaign.
