Suggestion for Mark/Tom

Post by JudgeDredd »

Can you think about building in some sort of mechanism - some icon overlay for the PLAYERS units to say whether they have been spotted or not?

The reason is...it's not obvious to me, as a player, which units have been spotted and which are currently hidden to the enemy. Enemy units, on the other hand are highlighted by a darker shade - and when you see them you KNOW they haven't been spotted by you.

Sometimes I'd like to just keep my units hidden.

Just a thought.

Great game.

I was wondering that same thing in a game I was playing today.

I think you can assume they're not spotted from the beginning of a turn if they're not adjacent to an enemy and are in cover. After that they get spotted if they fire or move in LOS without the crawl 1 hex option. However, there is a "Spot" button the enemy can use, too. I don't think you know the results of the enemy using that button, unless they start shooting at you.

I'm sure there's a lot to this game that I'm not aware of, yet, though. I've played Ambush!5 times as the partisans. Finally, won the last one. That's all I've played so far.

Not knowing the spotted status of all your units is probably supposed to be part of the Fog of War, but I think it would be OK if it was added as an option.
I don't write Universal Law. I just live by it.

If you are in non-clear terrain and you haven't done anything yet and there is no enemy adjacent you are unspotted and they would have to spot to fire at you. Enemy spot attempts will put the marker on you. But once you move or fire (unless you low crawl) they can see you.

Thanks Tom...but I know how it works...it's easy to forget. I think it would just be clearer if it was identifiable. It's easy to forget 'cos all your units are the same...regardless of whether they are in open terrain or not. A nice indication of what was unseen would be allow you to immediately identify hidden/non hidden units.

As I said, the enemy has a different shade of counter for unspotted units and it's extremely helpful.

I guess we've been playing it so long we just kinda know it right away. [:'(] Fading would probably be confusing, but maybe we can think of something.

I have no doubt it may become second nature...but it can be easily forgotten before then...plus you have to continuously think "Those troops are in cover, so they are unspotted.

I was thinking about a small icon (much like your "buttoned" one.
