April 8, 1942

One of my armor units cut the road just east of Cuttack on the south indian continent. NJP performs an attack which goes badly and I follow up with a shock attack that goes well. His unit is low on supply.

In the first attack here it appears that he might have been in strat mode because of the -OPMODE. He does not show a lack of supply in this combat.

I would concentrate your efforts on just 2, or maybe 3, "invasions." I think it is a mistake to overestimate Allied landing capabilities in 1942, not to mention the ability to support said landings. The OOB just doesn't support it if things start going south, and then you could end up wasting a lot of units, setting back your eventual REAL offensive even further.

Agreed. The allies do not have enough lift for more than maybe 2 at one time. What I mean by preparing invasions is prepping the troops for the target, moving them to a staging area, etc. Pulling the trigger is a different thing. If you dont have the troops ready to go it takes forever to get ready once an opportunity arises.

Once the troops are ready to go it is just a matter of when the opportunity arises. The KB is off the coast of Australia right now and if it stays there or out of the Indian ocean for the next 30 days I think these assaults will be largely successful. If so it will allow me to get Diego off the radar map and help that situation out a bit.

If the KB shows up in the IO for some reason then the invasion is put on hold and another one activated in the pacific or Australia, etc.

I didnt have any invasion planned for Noumea since I already owned it... Going to have to set some up for the surrounding areas as well.

April 9, 1942

The KB finishes off the stragglers from one cargo task force and punishes the small surface fleet that sunk a PB near Noumea. The other cargo task force nears Sydney. The KB is currently about 16 hexes east of Sydney harbor. I am not sure of his intentions.

I have 2 carriers in Sydney harbor, one JUST completed refit and the other a few days ago. Their decks are empty and the planes are elsewhere. The DB's that hit a heavy cruiser this turn are from the carriers. It sucked to lose that many DB's but I'm a newbie..

Added some escorts for this round. It appears he is trying to land more troops and supplies either at Cairns or nearby. I have a small surface TF that I tried to run into something last turn and failed. This turn I will send it across again and see what happens. Hopefully I score some troops!!

I put almost every fighter I could on CAP at Sydney. I also had over 100K in fuel sitting in tankers in port so I created a TF and started unloading ASAP. If the tankers get hit then at least they will be empty. Moving a BB TF back from Port Augusta to Melbourne to see if he can get a shot at the KB.

The 32nd division will be the core of my plans for the invasion of Noumea. It comes due in 12 days. It is unattached so I can continue other plans. Just released the 19th Regiment from Pearl for transport SW to wherever needed. Pago Pago could use some help along with Suva if NJP doesnt take it first. That is 750 VP. Again though, I cant hold it if he wants to use the KB as a blocking force.

If he takes Suva then the invasion plans get changed from Noumea to Suva. I dont get the wasp? or whatever carrier until mid June so the timetable is 3-4 months.

He zagged, I zigged, it worked out this time. I made a dent in his invasion force for the Cairns beachhead. DB's from Townsville aided in the carnage.

Is this the only use for the Kashima and her sister ships the Kashii and Katori?

18 knot wonders with 4 torps each and four 14cm guns. Good crew experience...there must be a better use.

Expendable commerce raiders? At least their deaths might cause the allies to more heavily guard convoys.

Sit in port in the HI for the entire game?

I like the "training cruisers" as amphibious escorts early in the war. Their speed matches nicely with the xAPs. Later, I'm not sure. Maybe pair them up with AMCs and go raiding, sure. Same speed, similar armament.

The Japanese send some betty's into Aussie territory unescorted. I believe that was just some screwed up naval attack setting on NJP's part but I will take the kills happily.

NJP Attacks and takes Ranchi in India. He has moved east and is moving north and west again. We will see what happens this time. More on India later.

I am doing lousy attacking Cairns with B17's. Probably need more detection on the base.

April 13, 1942

NJP Bombards my good armor unit just east of Cuttack. OUCH!! He might retreat into the woods but lets see what the river does to NJP's advancing troops. NJP has given up Belwan and there do not appear to be troops in Cocanada. Racing to take those cities. I am betting Vizagapatnam is also empty.

It looks like he might be moving north east after solidifying his position around Calcutta. Probably setting up LOC like Alfred indicated.

More troop transports are on the way to eastern Australia. Fun fun!!

What I am wondering is when he has to start moving troops back to take Manila and/or Singapore. I guess he has no time limit on Manila but Singapore is a nice shipyard and base. I guess there are other options. I do not believe he is using Columbo for much. Just not enough traffic in and out to suggest it. I am sure he has concerns about invasions causing ships that are repairing to be scuttled. Looking from the Japanese side I realize that the unstoppable empire is made of crystal. A few good hits and it shatters.

Ok, once Ceylon fell in February? NJP invaded the southern coast of India through Viszagapatnam. He proceeded to move west and take all of the cities on the southwest tip of India with the exception of Bangalore and Madras. We proceeded to dance round and round and then for some reason he decided to pull his troops out and move east with them. It might have been the supply situation that spooked him or maybe it is a much better LOC from Burma and he knew he could set it up. For whatever reason he decided to give up all the ground.

I just took Bezwada which is unoccupied and it appears cocanada is unoccupied as well. This seems to indicate he is not going to try to support the defense of Ceylon which is a good indicator. Ceylon cannot be well garrisoned ATM considering the forces he has on the indian continent and what he did have in Australia. I am wondering if he is moving some of the forces in Australia to other locations. It is tempting me to push west from Kalgoorlie and see what resistance I meet. If NJP manages to move 1000 AV from Australia to Ceylon/India he could be a real threat to the whole continent. He might also use this to take out Singapore which would actually be preferable.

In his previous AAR's he has indicated that he likes to take ground but then give it back in India and Australia to slow the advance of the allied armies. I dont see that happening yet.

I am reinforcing Trivandrum with a regiment and engineers to build up the airfield along with some AA. It would be nice to have bombers with fighter support taking on Colombo when needed.

Most of the invasion LCU's for Addu and Male will reach CT in 7 days. At that point they will disembark and combat load as soon as possible. I believe it is about 12 days from that point to the edge of the map for slower transports. Havent really nailed those numbers down yet. It would be useful to know exactly but life is life. So say 21 days before the assault is detected and in full swing.

The KB is off the east coast of Australia and many of the ships including the carriers are smoking. It is my best guess that NJP will be putting these ships into drydock relatively quickly but what do I know... Does anyone know when the KB carriers are due for upgrades??

Ok, so that leaves the mini KB. Every time I have seen it, it is off the coast of Diego supporting the bombardments. Havent seen it in a while but lets say it will be in the area. It currently has about 40 fighters and 40 bombers for a compliment. The 2 carriers I will be sortieing will each have 90 for 180 plus the Indomidable which could have up to 30 more fighter support. It gives me more than double the planes but probably wont save me if things go tits up. But you got to break a few toys to get points.

I need to start putting pressure on NJP or he will get the AV in 1943.

Been staring at this map for like 3 hours now...

He has an infantry regiment at Raipur that just smacked an indian regiment. I am strat moving about 500AV to Nagpur to move against Raipur. The dark green dot represents my 2 australian divisions plus the high exp British 70th Division plus artillery and a good bit of AA. Cant figure out whether to move it or let it be.

He has almost surrounded it but I am not sure that is an issue. It is a stack of 1300 AV in double terrain coverage and straddling an important rail line. If there is any other Objective I am guessing NJP is looking at it is a lightning shot to Bombay to try to score some points and a lot of oil/supply.

Troops are moving to Cocanada and then Visagapatnam and further west. I am not thrilled with the road along the coast as his bombardment just proved how vunerable LCU's are. Threw 2 squadrons of dauntless into Calcutta to see if they can hit something. Put all of the fighters on escort for the turn. There are 3 TF's in the area.

The KB is the south most fleet with the middle one looking like a big transport fleet and the upper one looking like a surface task force.

I am going to bombard Cairns with 3 CL's for kicks and grins. Townsville is a hornets nest of all the fighter CAP I can muster. His KB is looking a little tattered. Usually coming up with 70 something fighters and 170-180 bombers.

A bunch of DB's and other planes go to Rockhampton. There is no support at the base but there will be tomorrow.

The 2 CV's will stay at Sydney and I will use the unsinkable carriers for now.

There is a reinforcement regiment on ships 8 days out from Pago Pago. I will decide whether it goes to Suva or even farther as events unfold. Townsville gets a divsion tomorrow by rail and there is a regiment moving north up the road to Cairns.

Lost a lot of dive bombers and good men this turn. A couple of them actually reached the Kaga but did not manage to land a bomb on it. Some of NJP's supply fleet takes a hit at Chittagong.
