Wheatfield help

Post by vonRocko »

Hello, I'm looking for hints on winning the third scenario of the german campaign. I'm playing on normal and have lost 5 straight times! It seems too reliant on luck and not tactics.
The Russians break my guys and they never rally. It tells you to fall back to the other lines, but moving from your start positions is almost impossible without getting caught in the open and shaken.
There are not enough units to sacrifice sending individuals to draw fire.(stupid tactic anyhow, but standard in this game). Any tips appreciated.
Thanks

The 3rd scenario is all about know when to hold your fire.
You should not need to try and draw fire in this scenario. Let the Russians come to you.
Try not firing at the Russians unless they move adjacent to your positions.
Only after all the Russians have moved should you fire any remaining troops OR try to move.

Exceptions to this are the hero with the Slayer skill card and you off board artillery missions.

Hero: try and have him fire at a moving enemy in the middle of the open space. The sets up a zone of possible residual MG fire.
Other units moving close to the Slayer marker can come under fire.

Artillery: Try to use this when there are a bunch of enemy units in adjacent hexes in the open. It will shake lots of guys and also
block movement. The Fire for Effect markers show that if anyone moves into that hex they will be attack by the artillery.

You don't have to kill all the Russians. Just keep shaking them. It will slow down their advance and bog down their leaders.
Kill leaders if you get the chance.

Two more defeats!! I got much closer, but damn...the Russians either kill me, or I have just one less victory hex.[:o]

Feels good to get over that hump eh? It can still take me a couple of tries when I restart the campaign.
