Interface Questions

Post by 76mm »

Played through a couple of scenarios today before finishing the manual (working on it...) and had a couple of questions:

1) Playing as Guards, often I could not deselect units in a stack--in other words, I could select either the whole stack or no one--is that WAD?

2) Similarly, the "Spot" button was often greyed out, so I had to wait through most of a turn before I could spot the enemy when they fired at me. Why is it so hard to spot?

3) Other times, some buttons, especially Spot and Smoke, seem to be kind of lit up, but they don't work. I say "kind of lit up" because they were a bright red, but the text on them was sort of faded out.

4) I've seen a couple times in the manual that I can pick up support weapons and trade them among squads during the rally phase...but how exactly?

This is not special for the Guards and you should always be able to just select a single unit in a hex. It has been reported in the tech support that some people can't
always select single units like you describe. If you could post a picture when that happens it might help out.
2) Similarly, the "Spot" button was often greyed out, so I had to wait through most of a turn before I could spot the enemy when they fired at me. Why is it so hard to spot?

The spot button should un-grey when you select a single unit that has done nothing else that turn. If not then that is a bug.
3) Other times, some buttons, especially Spot and Smoke, seem to be kind of lit up, but they don't work. I say "kind of lit up" because they were a bright red, but the text on them was sort of faded out.

If a button is bright red then you cannot do that function.
4) I've seen a couple times in the manual that I can pick up support weapons and trade them among squads during the rally phase...but how exactly?

To pick up or change who possesses a weapon, you can click and drag the weapon counter onto unit counters in the unit display down in the lower right of the screen.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body,
but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!"

Red means you have multiple units selected, only some of which can do that thing. If you go ahead and push the button you will then have to select which unit in particular is doing it.

Same here. Happens in Ambush game too. Can only select full stacks. Seems quite random. Restarting game its fine. And it was fine playing ambush for 3 times before the bug.

OK but the problem was that I could only select the whole stack...

The full stacks thing is driving us crazy. I'm almost positive it has something to do with how you are selecting units. I know that I have spent literally thousands of hours with the game, and I don't see this bug. Please post either a pic, or send a saved game to Tom or I.

The Guards... what scenario? There are scenarios where you only control the Russian line units. The AI controls the guards. Please be as specific as you can.

I'll try to check later tonight, I'm at work. But I've played the scenario a couple fo times and had the problem both times. I forget what it is called, but it is one of the first stand-alone scenarios (not part of a campaign) in which the Guards are attacking the Germans in a factory.

Awwww dam a bug really? I was putting so much faith in this game that it wouldn't have any bugs, flaws, CTD's or anything. I was this {} close to pressing the buy button too. [:D]

The scenario was Downtown. I fired it up last night and of course the bug was not there...
