Damn - lost it on the last stone... well done to Canada.

...and now the women lose too. Not been a good day at all for Team GB [:(]
I am so sorry that it has been a bad day for Great Britain.

I hope that tomorrow will be a better day.

In fairness its probably not a bad day relatively - its more like normal for us at the Winter Games. Its just that, with the lottery money, the expectation is a little higher.

Thrilling Curling game this morning. A must win for both Russia and GB. GB won it on the final stone (well done Ms Muirhead [&o]). Got to say though, the Russian team were certainly lookers [X(]

Btw, how come in the Olympics it is GBR, while in other sports like football it is four single nations?

So its Britain vs Norway tomorrow for a place in the semi-final!

Re your question, I am not sure why some sports are different to others. So in Football, Rugby and Cricket we compete as England and the other home countries compete as their nation (although again Rugby (and I believe Cricket) are different as there is a united Ireland team - not so in football. In the Olympics its GB and Northern Ireland but in the Commonwealth Games its individual countries again.

Technically in Cricket it is England and Wales, usually abbreviated to England.
I think Scottish players are also eligible for none World cup events.

And of course in Rugby there are the periodic Lions tours, where it is GB+Ireland.

A lot of it is to do with quirks of history.

Wow - that took some doing.....

Britain's ladies Curling team 3-up with one end to play against Denmark. Managed to lose the last end 3-0 and then lost the play-off [8|].

Serves them right that they now have to play Canada in the semi-final.

Wow, so many nations without medals. They should have saved themselves money and not sent a team. They'll have a shot at medals at the summer olympics

I thought the idea behind the Olympic Games was to participate. [;)]

Besides that I would find it boring with only three participants in every event. [;)][:D]

So it will be fun to watch them beat Canada. Would been more fun to see them play Sweden but still plenty of excitement and fun with Canada. [:)]
Well done in making the semi-finals.

Cute team. [:)]

And in the men's it might be Great Britain vs Sweden (if we win our play-off against Norway and their pants tomorrow).

Yes - its not a flattering picture but the two ladies on the left are cute.

Terje

When it comes to football, each nation has its own FA (football association). The English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland leagues. These compete individually, although some welsh teams do play in the english leagues. When it came to the Olympics each association was asked if they were willing to join together and have a Team GB. Scotland did not want to. Therefore the Olympic team were made of different players from different FA's without scottish players. Only players that did not play in the European Championships were allowed to play for Team GB, don't ask me why, maybe to give more players a chance to play. Other Nations did not have this ruling.

The british Olympic Commitee is British and not English, Scottish etc. therefore Britain can only havea British Olympic team and not sent 4 single Nations.

The Commenwealth is a completely different story.

Only America plays true football. Do you think any European country could place a team on the field that could beat north Texas ? I do t think so. Even a combined Eurpean team would only kick a field goal against Florida State.

Ah grid iron footballers won't take to the field without all that padding and a helmet. Real men don't need that. I doubt if they could run the distance of a proper rugby, rugby league or Aussie Rules match and any game which allows field players to pick the ball up in their hands can't really lay claim to calling itself "football". Handball maybe. [;)]
