Buying the board game version?

Get ready for Mark H. Walker's Lock ‘n Load: Heroes of Stalingrad. This is the first complete computer game in the Lock ‘n Load series, covering the battles in and around Stalingrad during World War II.

Buying the board game version?

Post by Dorb »

I'm sure folks that have the board game version have bought the PC version. Just wondering if anyone going the other way, with owning the PC version now getting the board version? I ended up doing that with Conflict of Heroes. Not sure on this one yet, as I have not had time to buy it to check out.

Due to work and other commitments, my days of being involved with wargaming groups are over, so I am primarily a solitaire player now. That said, I enjoy a number of board games solo such as Panzer, and the Musket and Pike series, but if I can use a PC or tablet to play a game rather than buying the board game, then I will always make that choice. So for me, the short answer is no.

Unless or until Mr. Walker can convince my wife and daughter to give up their cardboard tank destroying cat, NO, I will not be buying the cardboard version.
On the other hand, If Mssrs. Walker and Proudfoot see fit to release modules for the digital version I'll definitely add them as I would the board game modules.

Bought the game last night, love what I see so far. Forgot I had "Day of Hero's" that never got past the open stage and checked out. I may have to give it another go, but recall the problem was finding other players.[:)] Once I get this figured out I can take what I learned and gives me an excuse to head to the local game store to see if any peeps wanna give it a go. - thanks again.
PS- hopes this takes off, would love to see PC version of this, always have a place in my heart for Black Hawk Down.[;)]

Most board games can be played on Vassal. If you play them on Vassal you should buy the game to support the designer.

Mark will thank you twice if you get his board game! [:D]

With Conflict of Heroes I went from the board game to the computer game, but with this game it's the other way around. Since I already own board games from the Conflict of Heroes and Combat Commander series, I've been reluctant to buy Lock'n Load. Now that I've tried it on PC, I've found out it's the series I like best (although they all have their advantages), and that makes me want to own one of the board games. Lock'n Load has some of the chess-like feel of Conflict of Heroes, and it tells a good story like Combat Commander (leaders and heroes contribute a lot to that). To me, that's the best of both worlds. In addition, there is something about the spotting rules that just clicks with me. Long story short, I ended up ordering Forgotten Heroes, and I'm seriously considering helping to fund the new Band of Heroes.

You'll enjoy FH2. I can also recommend Heroes of the Gap if you want to try out the 1985 WWWIII in Europe thing. It's a great module, and hopefully you can still find it.

One comparison to ASL that IS valid for Lock N Load...if you see a module that you're even remotely interested it, BUT IT. The print runs seem to be pretty small, and these games don't hang around long. I'm fortunate to own every LnL module published (I think), but most of that stuff is long gone from the primary market.

I missed the opportunity to buy Heroes of the Gap from a norwegian online store. But I did fund Band of Heroes. It was too tempting when it includes The Swift and the Bold, and you can get Michael Wittman if you add $20. BTW, for $90 (+$20 for international customers) you can get all the exclusive modules, for those who already own the base game.
