He's just ranting.

But I must say that I am surprised to lose Leningrad when it's in 5 supply, cv of +100, entrench 9, snow and readiness @ 89%. Has never happened before.

Anyway, that's the only thing that's ever happened in this game. My attacks fails miserably and he is only operating around Leningrad. We are now well into 1944 and positions are about the same as at the start of the game. Beeing my first shot at the 1943 scenario, I must say I am dissapointed. It hasn't shown me anything new; it feels like I am playing a 1914-1918 simulator with troops gaining a few yards one day and losing them the day after.

Germany is bombed to pieces and slaakie is loosing +200 fw's a turn, but that seems of no importance.

I think this scenario is quite uniteresting.

I have played the '43 scenario several times, and (after more or less combat in summer 1943) it eventually always led to boring trench warfare.
I think the reason for this is the fact that the units don't lose readiness by combat (I think that's a bug). So defending units only lose readiness through artillery and air attacks, and that's usually not enough to cause a noticeable decrease in readiness. That means no matter how often you attack an enemy unit - if you cannot force it to retreat (which rarely happens because of the good entrenchment) it will remain at high readiness indefinitely. And the entrenchment also limits the losses, not depleting the replacemt pools too much and giving the defender enough time to replace weakened divisions before the unit gets too weak to withstand the attacks. That means not even attrition will be much of a factor.

For successful offensives under the current circumstances you need a strong air force and lots of troops. The Russians lack the former, the Germans the latter, therefore the front remains static.

Somebody has to remove that readiness bug (I think it's still there in V3.3) to give repeated attacks a chance to break through. Only then will the game become interesting again.

Hi Micha,

I see I need to remind you about beating me last summer when we played this scenario

In my humble opinion, with 10% luck and 90% careful management any of the two sides can break the deadlock.

In the air, the Soviets have the La-5FN, which is as good as the FW, and then the La-7, which is even better. The USAAF's Mustang also does a good job at keeping the Luftwaffe busy.

On the ground, the Axis has the all but unbeatable Panthers and Tigers. German infantry with some tank backing can still be formidable.

I like this scenario more than '41 precisely because it is not enough just to move some PzKorps around and cut off the enemy - they will get chopped before you can say 'Kursk'

Define Pocket. They came out, didn't they? Right now, german pz's are in a 'pocket', but no doubt they will break out too.
