I fully agree with all of the comments made. Witp and Witp-AE are the best games I have ever played.
I am currently playing Witp-AE and average 6 or more hours playtime EVERY day.
I used to play Witp the same amount of time every day, and these programs are the best cost for the amount spent.
I started with the original Pacific War game and all of these Matrix games are superb, and they just keep getting better.
I start my day by reading the subscription forum to get updated and new information, and then jump into the game.

Do those minutes at the office count where you peek at an AAR or wonder if your missions flew?[8D]

He's not likely a troll, but I doubt the OP is ready for this game. He looked at the surface only ... didn't notice the activity here on a game +5yo. That doesn't suggest he is ready for this level of engagement.

I would encourage him to go look for HOI (you can find that original in the $5 bargin bin), and after a few years of play he might be ready for this ... maybe.

[:)] Reminds me of old Marine Corps recruiting posters

"Looking for a few good men"

"The Few. The Proud"

"You may be tough but are you tough enough to be a Marine?"

And just because I picture old posters doesn't make Pax's comment any less apt

I'm glad to see the game still priced high. That in it self almost proves the worth of the game. If you add in the community and mods you can forget the birth date. WAIT..I've been a member for how long? Where does the time go?.............click......click......click

When Uncommon Valor came out I bought it and loved it.
When WitP came out, ditto
When AE came out, the same.
For all the money I've spent it has to be the cheapest of any I've owned except possibly the Civ games.
This is the game I dreamed about having before home computers existed.
As far as the website is concerned my only complaint is the 'search' function. I rarely get a satisfactory result.
Hardly a deal breaker[:D]

I think this game is way too cheap. I think it should be as expensive as rarest, most addictive drugs. WiTP:AE can, literally, ruin lives of the weak-willed.

We need to find a way to use that common "the first taste is free" trick, I think.

You can use Google to search the forum. On the search start it with:

well, this game is "lov or hate" :), and most love it. This game is unique in that it offers things which many games dont, someone call it nano-managment for best performance, others bringimg RL diffculties in game.
Truth is, this game is playable with normal (micro) managment, nano is regired to sqeeze any posible advantage, but well that say as in RL - if you want bets results, you must try harder than others.
And for offering which other games lack ? well it is supply managment and merchant marine - thing which many ppl overlook, but are most important in war - you can have 100k troops on enemy soil figting only 10k enemies...but it is hopeless if they are runned out of supply. So player must look for avaiable resources and only do offensives he can support acordingly. You plan offensive here, nice, send 3 TF to wipe out enemy ships and prepare landing.....succes...but what??? i cant move these ships to another acion because they used all avaible fuel in combat sorties ?? d-oh. well wait 25 days until fuel convoy is formed, loaded and arive on destination. Price for not advance thinking :).
And how all this simulate rl difficulties and are not here only to annoy player ? well, look at two nice examples of war againt merchant marine - german offensive against uk/allied and us offensive againt japan shipping. While german offensive failed in the end, early succes were very infulencial, in 43 germans basicaly lost battle for atlantic, still cumulated loses for allies forced them to do offensives they can afford , and scratch ones which they wanted (delayed d-day normandy is best example). But us offensive agaisnt jpanese is nice example how it should be made - thier loses were so great that japanese industry was basicaly halted even before war ended bue t lack of imports, merchant marine was so rare that they were forced to let some garrisons on island basicaly to starve out and die out/surrender/not be able to evacuate.

I think it's cheap for the purchase price, where most games are overpriced for what you get. You can play this game for a looong time and still discover new functions that you were not even aware existed.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

From a 2011 thread I keep in my Favorites:

Use Google. Preface your search with

site:matrixgames.com

and include

+"War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition"

or whatever sub-forum you want to search. Note at the top of the very page you are reading now they have:

All Forums >> [New Releases from Matrix Games] >> War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition >> searching the posts on this forum? Erroneous retrieval...

To search just the Tech Support sub-forum make sure to include this:
+"War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition >> Tech Support"

So if you wanted to find posts in Tech Support with the word "crash" in them, Google this:

site:matrixgames.com +"War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition >> Tech Support" crash

Don't bother with the built-in search. Using Google works better. Hope this helps.

The game is still being actively supported as the latest version is only months old. $/hour makes the price a great investment.
Todd

I never thought that doing an AAR would be so time consuming and difficult.

WITP and AE are the only games I've played since 2005, tried WITE but didn't stick with it and I played many games before AE came along.

I followed your detailed recommendations and got excellent results[:)]
This is a big help to me. I often come up with questions I know have
been discussed before but going through the post manually is a little
daunting to say the least!
