Apparently NJP did not appreciate me moving onto Norfolk Island and just dumped a division of unprepped troops on the island. The unloading kills 1500 of his troops. I set mine to shock attack even though they have 60% disablement as they are likely going to die anyway and this is my only shot.

I didnt plan on him being that aggressive. Oh well...

A series of sweeps at Columbo go badly for the Allies losing 21 P39's to 13 Zero's. NJP has moved over 100 Fighters to Columbo. That is in addition to over 30 bombers and 40 additional aircraft. He has 8 units at Columbo and maybe an air flotilla but I wonder if he actually has enough AV support for nearly 200 planes...

I have lots of other fighter squadrons that I can move in and out to conduct further sweeps but I am wondering if it is worth it at the moment. Any assaults on Male and Addu should wait 1 - 2 more months to have the troops fully prepped so winning an air war right now would not help me much.

I am moving a small light cruiser force down to see if a bombardment is possible. There is a surface combat TF on the way in about 10-12 days and 3 carriers are sitting at Bombay until I can figure out what to do for an attack.

Addu and Male are still problems for recon planes although I am attriting Male. That airfield has about 35 damage to it.

Nothing else but prepping, moving supplies and troops and training. Waiting sucks...

I thought about the strategic situation a lot last night. I just need to be patient.

By taking Norfolk Island, NJP opens himself up for attacks by the Netherlands. My B-17's could reach the island. The flip side is that he is just aggressive enough to take the whole damn country over!! I need to formulate a plan before I start bombing him from Auckland.

NE Australia needs to be heavily developed. I am just starting to get the troops to do it. 5 construction battalions are on their way to Pearl Harbor for movement to Australia and the pacific islands. These were restricted but worth buying out.

I have more B-17's moving from the EC to CT and then to Diego Garcia. It will be about 28 days before they are on the island however. From there I can start to attack his air field and troops at Addu island. SW india is being built up with the airfields. He has over 90 fighters at Columbo though and I dont want to Attrit my air force against his for no reason. A STF containing a BB & BC are OTW from Diego and will be available within 2 weeks. At that point I might put together a surface bombardment fleet to hit Columbo possibly.

He has moved his planes off Male and the airfield destruction is 45%. I am switching bombers to ground target for a few days to see what the results are.

I am building up Pago Pago which is a lvl 4 airfield now. Have gotten enough troops to the island to HOPE he doesnt try an assault. Over 400AV now which should slow him down. He has 3 submarines plaguing the island that I have to deal with before moving any more significant stuff onto the island. I just managed to land a regiment plus AV. Need quite a bit more AV but the good news is that I have that in spades now coming from the east coast. Just have to get it into position.

From Pago I will use LBA air cover to advance to other islands closer to Suva over the coming months. I have over 2 divisions plus combat engineers training for Nadi and I think some troops training for Suva as well. It is going to be months and months before this op is ready however. Hopefully before the end of the year.

Adak Island up in the north is building quickly with 300+ AV and a couple hundred more. Airfield is lvl 4 already. Using it for a sub base. Have moved 6-10 subs into his supply routes around the HI. Hopefully I snare a few transports. I have the North Pacific command HQ training for Paramushi-Jima along with over a division of troops but I am not sure when taking that island would be beneficial. I know that something needs to happen in this area as it is too quiet.

One of my primary concerns at the moment is where 1000+ AV of his troops from Perth are. I have no way of doing any significant recon due to the distances involved as he owns Kalgoorlie and everything west of it.

Also, my submarine performance is less than desirable. I am using single sub patrols with routing set to deliberate and absolute with a reaction range of 1. Most of my commanders are not horrible. I have taken to patrolling the bases as it seems to be a really good tactic of my opponent.

Do other people have more success with wolfpacks or other settings for submarines?

FIN UH LEE....

Medium bombers from the coast of SW India attack the North Male Atoll and blow shite up... It is an incredibly small victory but one that marks the start of the eventual allied bombing advantage. 160 men out of a possible 3000 is more than 5% although the damage reports can be inflated.

NEVERMIND... It clearly says in the combat report he has the 85th JAAF Coy and the Sasebo 3rd SNLF on the island. That means he has no engineers. It also means that my attack either took out his AV support or his general support on the attack on the JAAF Coy.

So, if I can get a month of solid bombing there may not be a reason to do an amphibious assault on Male... Things are looking slightly up so the other shoe will drop soon

CL Kiso takes a torpedo. If it takes a squeaky wheel to get oil I am going to start sounding like a cat in heat...

More air attacks go in against North Male. I looked up the units in the other game I am playing. I figured if the Allies knew the names of the units they probably knew the composition, especially after the extensive recon I have been doing. If not, I am going to AE hell... The good news is the Sasebo unit is very experienced so I will be able to attrit that away. I wonder if he plans on trying to rescue the units.

Subs claim 2 ships today.

I have this crazy plan to take Chittagong and move him out of India but we shall see what happens.

Excellent point!!

Since he likely doesnt have engineers there the airfield will not be repaired. He could airlift some in if he wanted to but Male is not likely that important a target to waste key troops on. By leaving them NJP has to decide if he wants to risk assets attempting to rescue or reinforce them.

On the downside I have this big beautiful assault plan for the Island of North Male including full color maps and cool charts and everything (in game, not IRL.. I am not that crazy...Well, maybe I am...). I do have about 200AV tasked to take this island by amphibious assault and their prep is getting pretty high.

The goal was ultimately to deny him use of the island for surveillance and that has already occurred. I have no real reason to need to occupy the island. Physically attacking it now or soon would cause me to lose points and risk assets that are not needed.

And given what just happened in this last turn, I think NJP's strategic hold on Ceylon might be in question. (I just took out a pile of planes at Columbo with sweeps of 6 air groups. I have another set of sweeps of 5 fresh air groups going in today. Plus medium bombers are heading for the port to see if he has any ships still in repair. Maybe we can keep them there permanently... A great day in the skies for the Allies. 4 squadrons of fighter aircraft sweep Columbo in a series of dogfights to the Allies advantage. Several more squadrons sweep Trincomlee and I find out that if properly motivated a pilot flying a IIb can take down an Oscar.

Bombers go in at Norfolk and hit the airfield. They manage to kill a bunch of petes as well. I dont think I have seen pete's before. They dont do well against B-17's.

Subs are shooting if not hitting and that is a change for the better.

Ok, what is the truth??

I count 86 aircraft losses for the Japanese yet the loss number to the right shows 70.

Are the additional losses just FOW? Is the 70 number the correct number of losses or can that also be incorrect due to FOW??

Either way it was a good day for the Allies in the air.

Loses are always under FoW influence. In my experience total numbers the same as planes model loses are accurate with +- 5-10%. Usually - minus. So i will go wth lower number in this case.

I personally use tracker to check loses. I find it more accurate. In my test loses difference between Tracker and real loses are usual 99% accurate
Few times i had confirmation from my opponent and tracker was correct i with all numbers

I am using Tracker in my game with Dr. Hal playing the Japanese. Can I just create a new batch file that allows me to track my game as the Allies with NJP or is it easier to install a full version of tracker for each game?

You can do as many Tracker versions as you wish to. Just copy them to a different folder. I tend to copy the whole folder and delete the .db files. Then it is clean. Name the short cut (if you use one) something to identify each of them.

Can you somehow read the history of a game from one turn file or do you have to manually read each turn into tracker? Also, if you forget to read a turn into tracker, can you go back and load it?

The history is built as you read the new turn files, so you have to do that each turn. If you skip a turn it cannot be reread later. Tracker is like time, you cannot go backward into it. [;)][;)] Unless I am ignorant of that feature of course. That said, if you skip a few, it is usually not a big deal as trend analysis or whatnot will still be valid over a time frame of a week or longer; one missed turn of 1 or 2 days will matter naught.
