The Naval guards in Ndeni didn't stand a chance against US Army and Marine divisions.
Ndeni falls today and the whole St Cruz islands were reclaimed by Allies. About 1 year after they were seized by the Japanese.

Allies cap fought back and put up an strong resistance, Japanese suffered heavy losses, only scored a few small barges at the end of day.

Why Allies are making a kind of noise in the south, TF58 and landing ships made a big circle to the north and suddenly jumped out from northwest of Marcus island without alerting the Japanese.

After capturing Marcus island, TF58 headed south and is preparing for the next move.
Japanese have upgrade all their amry fighters to Ki-84r Frank, the best Army fighter in 44 and even 45, and start to picking fights and test the new plane.
Spitfire VIII and F4U-1 Corsair had a very hard time when CAPing against Ki-84r Frank.

When confirmed that KB is not around, Allies launched landing operation at Horn Island immediately.
Horn Island was garrisoned by two Japanese Divisions and they have been under suppression for a long time and apparently started to evacuate the island once they realized that they can't hold it for long.
Australian troops fought well and gained control of the island on Day 1.
