The sweeps went so well I swap out a few badly damaged air wings with fresh ones and go again. NJP outsmarts me and does not show up... Then the bombers show up and put 7 hits on top of the Fuso and set her on fire. DOH!!

The history is built as you read the new turn files, so you have to do that each turn. If you skip a turn it cannot be reread later. Tracker is like time, you cannot go backward into it. [;)][;)] Unless I am ignorant of that feature of course. That said, if you skip a few, it is usually not a big deal as trend analysis or whatnot will still be valid over a time frame of a week or longer; one missed turn of 1 or 2 days will matter naught.

The feature is to go back through your saved files and copy them to your game file one at a time while running tracker in between. Not pretty but it would work.

I am trying to use my airforce like a sword, not a club so I set all forces participating in the last 2 days to stand down for a day. Meanwhile, I sent some bombers at Dacca and get some minor hits.

May 30, 1942

No less than 3 bombardment fleets hit Trivandrum on the turn. Good thing I moved all my fighters inland. NJP takes 1 hit to a cruiser from shore defenses. The field will be down for a few days but he didnt do much damage. Lets see if he tries to set up a conveyor belt of bombardment. I will put subs including dutch subs along his path.

There is not a base 5 hexes or less from Columbo except for Trivandrum. However, there are 2 inland bases within 5 hexes of Trincomlee. I can destroy that airfield with impunity. Allied STF and carrier forces are within days of the theatre but I am not sure how to use them yet.

The history is built as you read the new turn files, so you have to do that each turn. If you skip a turn it cannot be reread later. Tracker is like time, you cannot go backward into it. [;)][;)] Unless I am ignorant of that feature of course. That said, if you skip a few, it is usually not a big deal as trend analysis or whatnot will still be valid over a time frame of a week or longer; one missed turn of 1 or 2 days will matter naught.

The feature is to go back through your saved files and copy them to your game file one at a time while running tracker in between. Not pretty but it would work.

There is a multi-turn read in Tracker, but I've never used it. I assume it's there to load up several/many turns right in a row.

May 31, 1942

I screwed up on my bomber settings. I was going to send a large night attack (the first night attack of the war I believe) with my bombers to Columbo but I decided against it and changed them all back to daytime bombing but neglected to change their target. So, all my bombers went in unescorted to attempt to bomb Columbo. I lost about 15 bombers which is better than could be expected. The bombing runs did not have any effect.

Allied bombers are taking out the airfields at Addu and Norfolk Islands.

My current plan is to annoy him to death on Ceylon... I have subs going in and out of port every turn to attempt to slip detection. I have another set of subs heading to deliver about 90 mines to the base. I have subs between Columbo and Trivandrum to attempt to intercept any additional bombardments. He currently has 3 juicy STF's in the area. If Fuso can be moved I am guessing it should be picking up any time now. He only has 5 ships in port at Columbo now, the BB, 2 AS and 2 TK.

3 squadrons of fighters will sweep Trincomlee this turn. I have more squadrons of fighters in the area than I know what to do with. It might be a tad unbalanced on this side of the globe with more OTW... Oh well.

He does not have many troops on Ceylon, just 10K at Columbo and a wierd assortment of units that have no troops. I am guessing some AA and then maybe some support units broken from parent units or something. The numbers have been pretty consistent over a month or so. I dont know if he has troops at the other 3 bases on Ceylon. I am training the 6th,7th Australian Divisions and the 70th British division and all should be 100% within a month. My biggest problem is getting the troops across the channel.

He currently has 99 fighters, 40 bombers and about 30 auxiliary aircraft. I can put up 2 battleships, the battle cruiser, about the same number of heavy cruisers as NJP has. I also have aircraft carriers at Columbo. However, I dont really want to face the LBA. It may be a stalemate at Ceylon for a while depending upon NJP. I am going to keep working the airforce, submarine, mine angles to see what advantages I can gain.

I was concerned about my earlier follies with LCU's and the resulting possibility of an AV win by NJP due to points. He agreed that unless I was actually defeated we would carry on past an AV win in 1943. So let the follies continue!!

NJP is holding several bases near Calcutta that between the two of them generate over 900 resources per day. In addition he is getting 70 oil per day from Ledo. That is annoying so I have started an offensive to take back India. I have about 500AV crossing the river and heading for Patna. He has at least a division heading towards my troops. The dark green unit in the upper right corner consists of 1400 AV of the australian divisions + 70th British + a big AA unit all in strat mode waiting to see what occurs.

There will be 400+ AV heading to support india in the troops that were planning to assault Male and Addu.

There are 1200+ AV of troops in Calcutta that could assist in moving forward as well.

Attacking ground forces in the area with 4 squadrons of Marauders to keep things interesting as well.

I wanted to try to use the 6th and 7th Australian divisions along with the 70th Division to take back Chittagong but supply, possible bombardment and the chance that NJP will attack somewhere else in India have held me up. I think that Ceylon is probably a more important strategic target than moving him away from Calcutta anyway.

I am going to put my best troops on it right now... A week to 10 days and the road will be cut and Chittagong will be threatened if he doesnt counter. If I manage to trap and kill 2-3 divisions in India it would sure make Burma a lot easier to swallow.

Moving troops by rail to the base east of Calcutta. I have 160,000 + supply at Calcutta so that is not an issue. Going to move east from there to Dacca and see what happens. This could be a trap but everything could be a trap.

June 1, 1942

Another great day for allied aircraft. Sweeps take out over 30 oscars at Trincomlee. My only issue is that I am scraping the bottom of the barrel on fighters but I think that it is a constant problem for the Allies. 25 P39's in the pool, no P40E's as typical. Sentai's of Oscars were turning back so his morale is low.

Some of his ground troops in India take a pounding. The Yokosuka 3rd SLNF is just gone... I am assuming that after that serious damage that it was likely in Strat mode and moved somewhere. No matter what it is going to need some R&R.

The bombardment fleets that were at Columbo have disappeared. If I dont see them for a while I will move my fighters back and start sweeping Columbo again. The object is to make Ceylon not worth holding and/or scoring as many points off of defenders between a rock and a hard place as possible.

Troops are moving to Pago Pago setting up for an eventual assault on Nadi. This is not happening soon. I believe the KB may still be in this area.

June 4, 1942

East India

Ok, the situation in East India has gotten interesting. I took the plunge and decided to move on the area near Chittagong. The 6th, 7th Australian & 70th British Division plus other troops have warped in to the hex just east of the dot hex Rangpur just southeast of Darjeeling. I am sending an armor unit to the northwest while moving the remaining stack of about 1300 AV east to Rangpur. This will cut the rail from Chittagong to the areas near Calcutta.

388 AV is moving east toward Patna to be joined by 128 AV moving southeast to the city. The force moving east is going to be jumped by a regiment moving over a river. I hope he manages to catch me as if he does that Regiment is going to get slaughtered by a division and 2 armor units.

The stack will combine at Patna and likely move southwest or move east to pin the division he has located east of Patna.

Over 600 AV has left Calcutta and is moving east to attack Dacca where he has a bunch of troops to be determined.

Another 3 regiments plus support will be at Cuttack within a few days. I expect that they will be used for reinforcement or they will move northeast along the road to Jamshedpur to put pressure on his west front.

If this works he should have little supply heading to the area around Calcutta and be within a tightening noose. I cannot discount his experience and skill though so the plan might change at any moment especially if he can get strategic moves.

East India

There is ALOT going on with this map.

Starting from top to bottom as best I can.

The top 2 units are moving south along the secondary rail line to ensure there are no stragglers hiding in the countryside ready to step on the rail lines. The AV 21 armor unit is going to swing up through Benares and then continue 2 hexes SE to the river crossing. The 156 AV will hit the river crossing tomorrow. Depending upon the movement of the 2 units to the south, they will make the crossing when it is prudent.

The single enemy unit below that is the retreating 1st Tank regiment that just had 10 tanks destroyed and 15 disabled. That puts him down around 30 AV or less. The 2nd Hyder Lancers Regiment will follow along and attack again if possible.

There is an enemy regiment moving east toward Patna. I am almost sure it is the one that mauled a unit near Raipur previously. To the east at Patna is the most interesting situation

A division and 2 armor units will attempt a shock attack against the 33rd Division. It is an experienced division but took a few bombing hits last turn resulting in about 8% disabled combat squads (18). Due to the fact that the regiment is heading this way it is the best chance for the units to do some serious damage.

If it works and the 33rd is forced to retreat it will likely hasten NJP's retreat from the area. If it doesnt work, hopefully I can get reinforcements into the area quickly enough.

The 2 units in the wooded base SW of Patna are likely air support as when I can get recon it tells me about 1000 troops.

The AV 40 infantry unit will capture Darjeeling while the AV 49 Armor unit will move southeast along the rail line to see if it can come into contact with fleeing units.

There is an unknown unit moving east toward my Australian and British troops. These troops plan to move southeast and attack Dacca if possible but may re direct and head toward Calcutta if the battle above goes badly.

Usually recon shows 10 enemy units NW of Calcutta and 2 might be missing along with signs that others are on the move. They may be headed for Patna or he may be bugging out.

THE AV 50 ARM unit in the base is just going to hang out for a day or two to see what happens.

THe 221 AV Inf Division will move NW and engage the fragment of Japanese troops and 2 AA batteries across the river and then proceed NW to put pressure on the base north of Calcutta.

378AV waiting NW of Dacca to determine if they should support the dacca invasion or back up and attempt to destroy cut off units if possible.
