[IMPLEMENTED PRE-1.09] Is an expanded 'CAP area' on the 'wanted' list?

Post by Bazza042 »

I have fighters tasked for CAP. I can place them over the position, say, a fleet, easily. So far, so good and even better the CAP area can be moved along with the fleet.

But then I have to decide whether they will prosecute contacts outside the area of the CAP. If I ask them to do so they will disappear in pursuit of just about any contact on the map that is within range. If I restrict them to the CAP area then they wander about ignoring inbound aircraft until the CAP 'area' is penetrated. A number of people have asked for provision to be made for a user option to establish a larger area surrounding the CAP area which, if entered, would cause the planes forming the CAP to 'investigate'.

Has this, or a similar 'fix' been adopted by the developers, please?

Thanks.

Yeah, I was also hoping for something like:

Patrol area using ref points, and an actual intercept area/range an editable away from the patrol area. Say you've got navy fighters protecting a carrier and they patrol a 50 nm diameter area, and are allowed to intercept inbound bogeys coming within 150 nm of the patrol area, but nothing beyond that.

I just switch the option back and forth between investigating outside of the CAP area. If I have an unknown inbound, I click the box and my fighters go off to investigate. Once done, I unclick the box and they return to the defined CAP area.

This is what i do also. Works like a charm.

Doesn't work if you're trying to setup an AI side when building a scenario though

I second the request for expanded patrol area idea. Not just for CAP patrol but for all patrol types.

It'd be a great feature. Even sort of "scaled" version of "Investigate contacts outside patrol area" would be nice, but might be more difficult to implement.
