request veteran/ release pilot without any day delay

Post by Jorge_Stanbury »

I am playing with the latest beta patch.
It is not a big deal, but it is possible to teleport pilots from one side of the ocean to another

In the air group screen; get new pilot. if I select: "request veteran" and then choose from the list "most experienced (skilled) / least experienced (skilled)" "release pilot/ release 5 pilots/ release 10 pilots" I will get those pilots automatically, without any day of delay.
If I choose individually, there will be some delay of "x" amount of days, which is likely WAD

When you select individually, you are able to more precisely filter for which skill levels you want on your pilots. I see the delay as the opportunity cost of this.

Doing it the "lazy way" with the release pilot(s) button only allows you to select either the least or most skilled pilot(s) in just one area. I think it is fine to allow them to arrive instantly in order to maintain the difference between very precisely selecting pilots and only selecting the top bombing pilots, for example.

Specifically, if you choose to use the lazy way when selected D3A Val pilots and filter by NavB, you may end up wasting torpedo pilots in your Val units unless you manually select. You can get around this by building your pilot training with these pilot selection constraints in mind, but it then limits you in other ways (not training TB pilots in Search while training your DB pilots in Search so that you filter by Bomber Pilots/Search when filling your DB units, filter by NavT when filling TB units, etc.). And then there's the FB/F competition for pilots also - you may not want Zero pilots to be skilled in LowG, but you do want Nick pilots to have LowG AND Air... So you'd pay the delay price and select manually.

However, if one were to implement a delay on selecting veterans by release pilots, then logically...shouldn't there also be a delay on getting pilots from replacements? It should apply all around, no?

I feel ashamed to be using it; although it is 1st turn (I just restarted against "hard AI").

as long as you go type-by-type and don't keep too many pilots in reserve, it works, in other words. just focus on dive bombers 1st, only after "all dive bomber teleports" are done, move to torpedo, etc.

I don't feel ashamed to use it at all. My opponent can do the exact same thing, just as easily. It does strain the suspension of disbelief, but that's OK in my opinion.
