Scenario for Testing: Operation Gudrun (eventer editor feast)

Post by Jakob Wedman »

I've started to make many scenarios over the years, but have not finished any yet [8|]

I started with "Operation Gudrun" from the techno thriller Midvintermörker in October [X(] but was beaten by blh42. Anyway, that made me put some more time into the last 100 events [:D]

Any feedback appreciated [:)]

Must admit I enjoy the background to this one, it essentially all sounds very plausible and convincing, I also like the limited assets available.
Certainly lots of events, I tended to find some worked, some I'm not totally sure on.

I found aircraft availability to be an issue, I know thtas intended in part, but I suspect not all worked as planned. The base in the US marked as "reinforcements" I'm not so sure how it was to be triggered. For my run through the aircraft didn't become available.
That's not an issue if intended, but I definitely had some issues as a result!

The SSM unit set off in boats, it managed the run in to shore, but the rest were sunk by Sunburns of all things. Mi 28's mostly destroyed the Swedish mobile units. The SSM unit then had a mad dash across country to get a Hellfire into the ferry, this worked very well.

The airborne reinforcements I didn't think worked in my run through. The Helicopters don't seem to be happy with their base and were waiting all game for an available taxiway. The Hercules types didn't stand a chance, by the time they get anywhere near the target they are detected, a long way out and intercepted by MIG 29's which wasn't pretty. With the balance of the air battle at that stage they won't make it to the target area I don't think.

The subs were a nice touch, both were lost and I had no control over them, however they actually sank a lot, I think six or so ships by the end. I think the only slight reservation I had was that there are a lot of sides which run slowly on my machine, however that shouldn't be an issue for most.

The "logical" sides are available at game start, I presume these are non player reinforcement sides?

The only other one that I did wonder slightly about, was whether it would be worth an explanation on the teleporting, I don't mean to give it away, but at times my orders say were to load units onto the boats, and In effect I can't load them? The method used seems very effective, I just wasn't as sure the player would instinctively know what was intended. Perhaps others can comment on that? Mind you, few of my reinforcements actually made it through!

Overall the AI set up for Russia was pretty nasty, with the limited resource I'd struggle for a win. I think the only critical area that I didn't understand was the air assets in US.

Thanks Steve!
The different logical sides are used to change status of different conditions.

The air assets in the US are reinforcements that will be teleported, maybe I should indicate the time in the briefing?

I'll add some runway for the helicopters.

I've uploaded a new version, changed the availability of the logical sides and added a runway for the helicopters.

The briefing says:
"172. sqn (Gator): 6 Gripen at damaged F 17 Ronneby airbase, could be available next day.
211. sqn (Wolf): 10 Gripen at F 21 Luleå, could be available next day."
so I didn't change the briefing.

Just started and noticed, possibly minor error in briefing
The recon plt BL is monitoring the roads 147 and 147 from Slite.

Probably my mistake then as I sent them off on CAP !

Thanks. Changed to "The recon plt BL is monitoring the roads 147 and 148 from Slite." but will wait with uploading a new version.

Now I see that the amphibious soldiers carrying Hellfire can sprint off at 30 kts [:D] (Reported.)

Wasn't sure if the unit was actually vehicle mounted, i.e. the unit used for the teleport, appreciate it wouldn't fit on the boat mind.
I think I have eighteen hours to go and reckon this is the toughest scenario I've played! Some of it I think may have gone slightly AWOL.

In essence I have no air force, I have a batch on Keflavik, and a batch at the far north. (Kvarn?)

I have two Gripens on the island, these were quickly shot down. The northern lot I landed at Uppsala, the Keflavik lot I landed at Moholm, Uppsala I think then got hit by a missile strike. Neither base seemed to have any supplies, unless I'd managed to get something wrong there?

I've a lot of Gripens, and am hoping to turn the air war, but most of them are on ferry loadouts!

I haven't rebuilt the scenario, so somewhere I suspect my ammo loads have been stolen. I did wonder if it was the missile strike, but in terms of losses its only an avgas tank that I am missing.

To be fair, with sufficient supplies the Gripens should stage something of a comeback.

Honestly struggling with speed too with the multiple sides am afraid, that is probably not an issue on most machines though.

Sorry, Uppsala as well as Eneryda och Hagshult should have some (but not many) RB 98 & RB 99. But F 21 Kallax, where you have the Gripens without armament, should have enough munitions to arm the aircrafts?

I suspect that the number of events might be slowing the scenario down.

Spoiler:
The book doesn't end happily for Sweden [:(]
