Ships Database

Post by GaryChildress »

I know some of the databases have special ranges of slots laid out for Allied and special ranges laid out for Japanese items. Unless I'm mistaken the "Ships" database isn't laid out in such a way. So for instance I could have Japanese ships intermingled with Allied ships and I presume the game would work fine? Is this correct? Or are there cell ranges in which the Japanese and Allied ships must be placed?

Thanks. [:)]

Yes, some files have slot ranges for Japan and for Allies - the location file for example. But I am quite sure the ship class and ship files have no such restrictions - my ship files are chaotic with alternating batches of additional Allied and Japanese ships, but so far I have seen no ill effects. However, it might be prudent not to mess with the slots of plane-carrying vessels - it *might* cause problems with the air files.

Thanks LST! Are there special slots in the ship database for "plane-carrying vessels?" I see there are several groups of them, including the Japanese, US and UK carriers which are all bunched together in separate locations. Is there anything special about those slots? Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks. [:)]

There is no slot restriction in either the class or ship files. Not based on nationality, nor on aircraft carrying, nor anything else.

If you CHANGE the slot of an existing ship that carries aircraft, you must also adjust the Air Group file to point the air group(s) to the new slot for the ship.
