Europe 44 Snapshots from ongoing games.

Post by governato »

I wanted to show a few snapshots from ongoing games with the 'Europe 44' scenario that have made it to the end of 1944, roughly half the way to completion. The scenario is available HERE and it incorporates several of the features made available by TOAW v3.4. Europe 44 is big, but the following updates show that it is balanced and hopefully fun to play between human opponents.

The image posted here is from Turn 26 of a game between me (Axis) and L'zard (Allies). The Allies have been stopped at the Sigfrid Wall and were probably planning to rest a bit over the Winter. The Allies supply network will remain weak until January, but the port of Antwerp had been taken. The Red Army is a bit behind the historical schedule, but making progress in Rumania.

Here is a snapshot of E44 at about the same time (turn 24) from a game between Ed and his opponent. Here the Allies is making more rapid progress. The Sigfrid wall has been breached and the Ruhr is now vulnerable. The Red Army is across the Vistula and approaching German soil from the East.

The last Allies war report is from two turns later (T26) "The Ruhr has fallen, and a huge pocket has been reduced; the Sportplatz in Nuernberg is in Allied hands; a great battle of annihilation has taken place near Belgrade. Fortress Breslau has held out against massed human wave attacks! The war is far from over, but pressure on the Reich is mounting!"

Now Tn 33, Feb 1, 1945. Berlin is very hard to take because of the Seelow Heights and the Oder- I am finally into Overwhelming Victory, but just barely. Of course, I have plenty of time. With fall of the Ruhr, Breslau, Munich, and other critical spots, Axis resistance is severely weakened.

I should be closing out another game in about a week or two finally opening up a slot for a new game. Fabio's Eastern Front was an impressive piece of work and I'm eager to give his newest creation a try. So I would like to try Europe 44 as the Axis. Any Allied takers?

Make sure you play v6.0! (the top link of the E44 thread).

I'm really curious to have an experienced player taking the Axis, to test scenario balance. The scenario is designed to be pretty historical, so it will have the Axis on the ropes at most times but, if he makes it past May 45 in good shape he will get some cool 'Wunderwaffens'. This is done obviously for fun and to reward good defensive play.
