Planning to buy a new computer... any risk?

Hello, my current laptop is reaching the end of its lifecycle after more than 3 years of service

Of course I plan to buy a new one, but my question is; is there any risk with newer laptops/ operating systems in running WITP or the tracker ?
I am worried about windows 8


I know I would need to keep an older version of Java for the tracker to work; is that it all?

A friend recently bought a new computer using Windows 8 and isn't having any problem with the AE game. He doesn't use tracker though.

I am running Windows 8.1 (previously Win8) without any problems. Tracker is working also using JAVA 6.
Don't install in "Program Files".

Another Win 8.1 user here running WitP-AE without any issue. [:)]
