Tankers?

Post by ETF »

OK having difficulty what is the trick to getting my birds to hook up to get a drink. Tankers are in a support Box and have the mission. Fighters in the box loitering. No one wants to hook up?

<this sounds like a bad bar scene :)>

There's no real trick to it at all. I don't even assign my tankers to a "support" mission. I put them on a AAW mission along with my AEW and EW, set them to as unthreatening a profile as I can, mission speed to loiter. The patrol their box, and thirsty fighters nearby will come to drink.
Though surrounded by a great number of enemies
View them as a single foe
And so fight on!

So you put tankers on the same mission, not separate support missions and they behave as they should? The 1/3 rule works for tankers and AWACS on the exact same mission as well? I am definitely testing this now. :-)

Make sure the Use refuel/UNREP doctrine is set to yes for both tanker and receiver.

Are you sure about this for the tankers, seems like I had a problem with this(several builds ago) as the tankers were refueling each other and none were available for the strike aircraft.

I have everybody flying with ti off until I want them to refuel and then turn it to yes for both of them and as soon as they are done it goes off again. works for me.

Operation Brass Drum
Command v1.04 Release Candidate 3 Build 546

I am also having difficulty refueling aircraft in Operation Brass Drum. I have a KC-130J Hercules and a KC-135R Stratotanker Call signs Rim Shot #1 and Pit Stop #1. I want to top off the tanks of either aircraft and nothing happens. The units are in the Gulf of Oman. The KC-135 is assigned to a mission called Gas Station 2, the KC-130J is loitering in the area. The mission is located to the South of the America ARG

I would also like to see a feature for air refueling where in an emergency the refueling aircraft can disconnect and pursue an aggressor or RTB. I will upload my scenario.

Hey Phobosdeimos!
I played the scenario using your save file and also encountered some difficulties.

First thing I noticed is that aircrafts tasked on support missions are having difficulties to follow the tanker when ordered to hook up (They just go straight for hundreds of miles till they crash because of fuel). This issue can be solved by plotting any (no matter where) curse/waypoint for the aircraft that wants to refuel. After doing so, the aircraft will go after the tanker as it usually does. After it docked with the tanker you can delete the waypoint and everything continues normally.

Second is that the KC-130 was flying very low at 3500m I think (to refuel the CH-53??), giving her customers problems to connect with its wing drogues. Tried to refuel one of the CH-53 which was flying on the same altitude as the KC-130 but didn't work either. This is most likely a bug. (Doctrine settings, altitude, auto speed, properties of the aircrafts where all ok)

Hope this helps!

I tried also, and put the KC-130 on "Gas Station" mission and spread out the rps a bit(50-75nm), once in loop at loiter, no problem, -53 refueled.

The longer the straight line from rp to rp at loiter the better.

As for the Hornets, one refueled with no issue, the other(Tremor10) headed south to the incoming KC-135s(which I also placed in "Gas Station'), it eventually figured it out and refueled also.

Would suggest this tm.asp?m=3631625 , some tips from Tomcat, Sunburn, and I
