Separation Notification

Post by hcsimulator »

After putting in more hours than I would like to admit, I am going to separate myself from CW2.

I VERY MUCH LIKE the game! After buying many other computer ACW simulations and having them come up short IMO, AGEOD's CW2 seemed like I had found the computerized ACW game of my liking. The game requires the time and effort to climb a fairly steep learning curve. Time and effort I gladly put in as the game was fascinating and seemed worth the effort. Perhaps I am a slow player but it dawned on me that by the time I had checked out all the messages and cycled through all my units, 30 minutes to an hour were needed each turn. Again, a very enjoyable investment of time. I updated to the newest version of the game even though it meant that I had lost my already started April 61 scenario in late 61 and had to start again from the beginning. My first sign of trouble was that it seemed as I got into early 62 the game would crash during the playback portion of the turn. This happened at least twice and I lost everything and all the time I had invested. My simple, I thought, precaution was to save each turn just before I hit the playback arrow. This worked for about 4 days. Today I was chagrined to have the game crash in the middle of my input process, losing at least half an hour of effort.

Bottom line. As much as I like the game and enjoy playing it, I value my time even more and don't wish to invest any further effort into this game until such time as the stability issues can be addressed. I will be watching for an update that will regain my trust.

Not tech support but thought this may help. I wrote this in reply to another person seeing a lot of crashes:

The only crashes I ever see in AGEOD games are when players play for too long at one sitting (probable memory leak issue). In a game as large as CW2 I try and exit/restart my program about every 4 or 5 turns. If I do that I never see a crash.

As to save games, when the above crash occurs it corrupts the save 1 folder. Simply go into your folders and delete the save 1 folder, then rename the save 2 to save 1 and your game will be back at the last save location.

i don't want to say close the stable door after the horse is already gone / bolted etc, but when using windows for only a few years and gaming, i realized that the only way i was going to stay with any hair left on my head after hours of playing was to back up my saves as often as i could remember to, just for the above reasons.

most crashes aren't game related, but o/s or hardware, sometimes it's code and needs an update, most of the time a good backup regime is all that's needed, fingers crossed and hope you had a least a save somewhere near to where you was
