Utility Programs for Modders

Post by Symon »

Found a wonderful utility for comparing csv files. Does other things too, but it’s great for identifying not just different lines, but also differences in entries, per line, in csv files. Excellent, very intuitive, UI, great internal help and tutorials, lots of useful filter options. Best of all, it’s open source freeware. A “Must” for modders that do multiple scenarios off the same base data set.

[ed] it even has difference editing functions !! Woof !!

Find it at http://winmerge.org/ you won’t be disappointed. Ciao. J

I use Beyond Compare, which costs something like $25. I use it with source code as well as tons of other file compare uses.

I'll check out WinMerge though. Maybe it has a nice feature or two that Beyond Compare lacks.

I also use Beyond Compare. I don't think I've come across anything it can't handle (in some form or another) yet, be it text, hex files, code, entire folder trees, etc. The fact it can output comparisons of your files of choice in a variety of formats is also neat. Very handy tool, and well worth the license in my opinion.

It also has a fairly long trail period with full features in case anyone is interested in trying it.

I use beyond compare and a couple other hexed/diff and bined/comp utilities. Was just suggesting something that modders, that might not be programmers, would find useful in the context of the game system and the results of witploadAE. That's pretty much it [;)] Ciao. J
