Understanding Engineers
#6

Three engineering students were gathered together discussing who must
have designed
the human body. One said, "It was a mechanical engineer.
Just look at all the
joints." Another said, "No, it was an electrical
engineer. The nervous system
has many thousands of electrical
connections." The last one said, "No,
actually it had to have been a
civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic
waste pipeline through a recreational area?"

and in case you like the occasional beverage out on the town, like me......

It might be a good idea to just create a minefield at Akyab and pair it with one or two PT boat squads. Would retreat the B17s back to Chitta too.. but that might just be me

To late on the Fortresses I'm afraid, no railhead, and they are pretty messed up, I have been getting a few planes a day out by air. The fighter squadrons are regrouping behind the lines. I had some thin sub laid mines out, but few were left when the first raid appeared. I am embarrassed, I'm not sure I have any mine laying ships near by.[:-]. I only see MGBTs available in this theater, are PTs obtainable? I will check again on that one. There are 40 PTs left in reserve, many are deployed in the Pacific. I am deploying a heavier surface TF to the area, it should be rounding Ceylon now. What a chess match, even sans a queen.

You should be able to create a PT boat TF in Calcutta, as long as you have enough in your pool + sufficient supply. Do you have a few old US BBs nearby? That might help..

If he is not bombarding Akyab nightly, then get some xAKs or xAKLs in there to load the damaged planes and get them back to Chittagong or beyond for repairs. Come in empty and just load the planes.

Mine the base and the hex due SW that his BB TF has to transit through. If you have some of the low Endurance Dutch subs available, then they work well in those shallow hexes.

I have the older Royal Navy battleships at Colombo. I have scant to escort them with. Odd that I have delivered a ton of fuel to India but supply remains below 100,ooo pts everywhere but Ceylon. I can't request any more at Calcutta. I am going to send 100,ooo pts of pure supply from the middle east tomorrow and see.
Another cruiser force with two of my last three destroyers approaches the coast by Madras to try again. I re routed the subs to choke points. A light AAA Rgt will reach Akyab tonight to help with the aerial assault. I am behind strong fortification here with a level 9 aerodrome complex; I will not give it up. 450av behind the forts with another reinforced division 50mi to the east will have to hold. Chittagong and Cox Bazar are similarly held and fortified. I hope to divert his attention soon with an action in the jungles north of Mandalay.

Saturday

Akyab sees large sweeps of Tojo and Zero fighters, only a small bomber contingent shows up. There is no allied CAP. HMS Dorsetshire makes dry dock at Calcutta.

Monday

SoPac: An Emily is sighted over the base at Lakatoro island. It is occupied by marine defense units, the 21st Rgt under "Chesty" along with engineers and army air force ground personnel. Forts are at 3 with construction on a strip begun.

NorPac: Transports round Kodiak with forces and ships for Unmak.

SwPac: Only recon and sporadic bombing of Port Moresby, Lae, and Buna. I can get recon over the Shortland Islands. There the IJN rests in strength.

China: The IJA assaults the center and the surrounded 20th Army Group. Both are repulsed.

Burma: The base at Akyab is still operational while heavily damaged. I have sent a transport to grab the B17s. If it is successful I will grab the P38s as well.

Alaska: Flak units scheduled for deployment at Umnak are due to arrive tonight along with transports.

Hawaiian Islands: IJN sub activity has picked up. Not much going on here except a massive supply build up. I am going to transfer some fighters out when I can get an entire group into "K" model Warhawks.

Been awhile Kurt.  Not bad on the naval battle.  You cannot get PT boats in India with the way it stands.  You can get them in India if you buy out a base and change it to either an American or Aussie command.  Ramree is free.  I did this in my game.  the smaller bases are cheaper to convert.  You need more subs in each hex around Akyab.  Nite NavS helps also.  What ships do you have in the area.  I know you got some old Brit BBs what ones and what else.  Set up an ambush for him.  Those Brit BBs will withdraw so if they get sunk who cares.  Hes got a lot of expensive ships in the area.  One or two good SAGs at Akyab with some crappy ships will keep him from hitting the AF and give your fly boys a chance to get some payback and you would have subs in the area to pick off the wounded.
