Question byOne Considering DW

Distant Worlds is a vast, pausable real-time, 4X space strategy game which models a "living galaxy" with incredible options for replayability and customizability. Experience the full depth and detail of large turn-based strategy games, but with the simplicity and ease of real-time, and on the scale of a massively-multiplayer online game. Now greatly enhanced with the new Universe release, which includes all four previous releases as well as the new Universe expansion!

Question byOne Considering DW

Post by Werewolf13 »

DW is on my want list but at $100 to get it and all the DLC the price is pretty steep.

Been lurking for a while and some of the things the DLC adds like UI improvements IMO should be patches and not something that should be paid for.

That said are UI improvements in the latest version of the base game or does one have to purchase all the way up thru Shadows to get the UI improvements?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I do not own any of these games, but have been reading this forum for awhile as I too have been thinking about making a purchase. From what I gather from reading posts, I believe you have to purchase all the way up to Shadow for the latest and greatest UI and fixes. Again, I do not own the game so I am speculating. I have decided to wait for the DW: Universe to come out and see what that price is going to be before deciding to make a purchase myself.

I'd wait the month or so for Universe to be released. Currently you would need all the expansions. Universe will be the first stand-alone version since the initial release but will also have greater mod support (which I'm looking forward to seeing what the community will make).

Are you the same Das who did the Let's Play videos of DW on You Tube?

Yes, Ostwindflak. Das123 is the creator of the DW Let's Play series on YouTube. He speaks with some experience, and I agree with him on this issue of when to make this purchase. I currently own all expansions which I bought one-at-a-time as they were released. Each expansion added more of everything to the game.

So Werewolf1326, at this point I would wait until Universe is released to see if the price break offered is agreeable to you. There will be some new features to enjoy.

Glad to see it is him. I wanted to thank him for doing those as his videos are what got me interested in DW. The only 4x space game I had played was Galactic Civ II and got tired of it. I saw DW on Matrix and searched for vids and found Das's vids. I have watched more of those than I care to admit, but they are entertaining and informative. So Das if you read this....Thank you for the fantastic videos. They are helpful for people who are interested in the game and are looking to check it out.

Agree with advice above. I have all the currently available DW, including shadows. If I had no DWs at all, I would wait and see what the tradeoffs are between the two purchase routes.
